i had a difficult litter, as soon as i took them off their mother: tube fed them isbalic replacer, sub q fluids, wormer and a injection of antibiotics they turned the corner and grew like weeds!  when the puppies started to improve, i put them back with thier mother and the relapsed.

Havent heard any more about the babies.  I was asked my opinion on one of the pups .  I said in my opinion to PTS, she did not like my opinion  that is the last I heard.

hope she's taking some of the advice and working thru the illness..

Betta Wolf - The litter was from a rescue bitch, she was loaded with worms, coccidia, guardia and horribly skinny. I imported her becasue she was going to be killed before she had her puppies, she was too young and not titled - she was an embarrasment to her owner and he wanted her dead. Puppies were born only a week after being imported.

Puppies were born healthy, but went down hill after a frew days. Once I took them off the dam, wormed and treated all 9 pups and mama they all flurished. I taped up mama's teats and let her stay with her puppies, she's was great mama and kept them clean and warm. Tube feeding is kinda gross, but once you get the knack, its quick and easy. Esbilac is a complete milk replacer, where home made milk replacer can be lacking vital neutrients... some home made forumlas cause issues later, like early onset cateracts....

Mama dog now lives on a ranch and she's fat and happy, puppies were adoped without registration and with spay/neuter contracts.

GSDPACK

I was under the impression no vet will release a female further than 4 weeks into pregnancy and on top of that in a bad shape... and the airlines would allow the dog on a plane...

Is it possible that the Dam has Canine Herpes virus?

GSDPACK - they will release anything they're paid to release, and the airlines don't look inside the crates......

Byrnjulf, very sorry to hear you didn't hear back from her. Hoping things improved for those pups :(. Hoping she was able to see a couple of the vets here that would likely be the best candidates to see if she was not able to connect with a specialist down south. You are right in that we are really quite limited in terms of having the expertise at our fingertips but there are a few select vets in town that are really usually quite excellent and will forward on any needed referrals, particularly if one has an assertive approach. Sad situation and hope you hear back from her with some more positive news. Good on you for trying
