Sorry to hear.

Just a side note...

I am not a fan of Boerboels (or any mastiff type) personally as I am a GSD groupie, however, I have to say that the comment "...the ones I know of are guardians in Africa, where it's ok to have trespassers killed by dogs" as decidedly offensive, being as I am from the backwoods of (South) Africa and although attacks do happen here; as, I imagine, anywhere else in the world, it's never 'ok' and it is definitely not tolerated!

For more information on the S.A. Boerboel, check out the website http://www.sabt.co.za/

Good luck with the rescue.

Never heard of this breed before. Hope you get good homes for them.
They looked very good on Google and breed description but you guys have another story to tell about them. They sound... intense..

Vanessa, sorry, but that is accurate. I have very close personal friends who have witnessed such things. This friend of mine has seen things most people don't believe ever happen due to the places he goes. You clearly are NOT from where I am speaking of, as you're on an internet forum. Tongue Smile Where he goes on his trips, they have to travel hours and hours to even get to anywhere a computer could work. So, take offense if you must, but you're way off base. Obviously I was being flippant about "ok" to kill people, but making the point that these dogs are serious...the real deal.

I second Jenni's cautionary tail.  These dogs are man stoppers not personal protection dogs.  Bred specifically to take down "raiders".  be they 4 legged or 2

My paternal grandfather lived in SA for many years and had these dogs. in the right hands, with the right training, they are wonderfully awesome animals. His dogs were big, mushy, overgrown puppies their whole lives but you still have to have respect for the power and brute force these dogs could use if and when necessary.

It's a shame I'm not closer. I'd be happy to take on a few puppies, at least for fostering if not permanently. I'm not a mastiff person either, the GSD being "my" breed (for want of a better phrase). But I do know a lot about this breed (would never claim to be any sort of expert though). If I can help in any way, please let me know.

"His dogs were big, mushy, overgrown puppies their whole lives..."

That just about describes the one that comes here to board. And yeah, I often look at her, and think, "Wow, I am SO glad she's got such a nice temperament!"

some of the ones in south africa woudl kill a person as in africa like jenni said the dogs can do what they want there same with many other country in the old world, gsds are still a fave in many other places and can also bite and attack and kill whoever they please in many places and not get in trouble for it, but the ones here seem ot have lost it and are not nearly as lethal unless they are direct imports. Most of the mastiff type dogs here have had it bred out of them to fit in our passive society.
