Defending nothing. The objection is selection based on appearance...

" Mass out breaks of civil unrest" ...?!!! Over a dog's EARS!!!??? What kind of lunacy are you living in? Man, the UK has deteriorated to certify able paranoia if pointy ears on a dog causes mass out breaks of civil unrest! Sounds like the uncivilized reaction a troup of chimpanzees would have... Cause you ain't talking about anything that has happened in the Great, Civilized, US of A !!! That's for darn shure!

Unbelievable...."mass out breaks of civil unrest" over pointy ears!

And, " caught up in a piece of hysteria" !!!!

What a bunch of uncivilized  weak soyboy snowflake paranoid wimps!!!!

All right I'll grant you that 'mass civil unrest' was a bit OTT but I think Val probably got what I was trying to portray. Clearly you do not have any empathy for the poor sods of customs & immigration officers who might find someone who has the excuse of being scared by dogs (or anything else) leads to a smallish (but still awkward to contain) riot going on around them.

Does somewhat depend on the size and popularity of the terminus, however.

Careful with the insults Joan, thank you.

Not naming anyone, hund, but just hypothetical nervy folks who don't have a grip on reality if they go berserk over pointy ears...perhaps any folks that unstable should not be allowed to board a jetliner...what would they do when the plane hits turbulance? Just saying.

They could just be a bunch of clowns, and difficult for the crew to manage with turbulance bouncing the plane around.

The questIon should be:

WHY are people afraid of dogs at all ?
WHY does government or TSA think it's useful to make such a decision?
WHY don't people just use old fashioned common sense?

Personally I am sick of all of those "civilisation" based problems.
When a majority is wrong it's time to tell them that they are wrong -
feeding their neurotics won't help but make things worse...

Just my opinion

Hmmm ... but "telling a(ny) minority they are wrong" (whoever you mean, Susie) is like telling Joan's bunch of unstable people apart from both stable people... and non-stable (but also non-terrorist) people. Not always possible. Especially once you realise criminals do not have to look like criminals, or terrorists do not have to look like arabs, in robes; or you 'should not judge a book by its cover'. Or what you see as 'wrong' is not necessarily what others think is wrong.

And if you find someone you consider is 'wrong' - for example someone who is afraid of dogs, or certain breeds of dog, how do you 'tell' them their fears are groundless (especially in circumstances where they might, in fact, not be.  /s)

Forgot to mention:
This problem is not about "pointy ears" but about giving up common sense at all (education, business, daily life).

Instincts and common sense should matter, giving up doesn't help at all.

Hund, "pointy ears" are not "dangerous" -
fact.
There are feelings and there are facts -
common sense.
In case people lost their feeling for common facts they either have to believe in facts although they don't feel well or they have to avoid the situation at all = don't fly.
How sick do you want society to become?

for anyone who has traveled much, I,m guessing that TSA has some of the lowest IQ, least education, lowest requirements of any government agency in the USA.

never had any interaction with the higher ups, just the ones they hire.
