the simple reason that sheps are better for this training/work is the simple fact that sheps are bred for other purpose than huntingbreeds, some high desire traits in shepherds that make them suitable for LE, are totally UNDESIRABLE for huntingbreeds/breeders

 

having that said, you can teach any dog with some drive to use its nose, so even a standart poodle or pekinese could be trained to do so(using marker training LOL)

but overall quality and availability(percentage of breed that is suitable) would not match that of shepherds

finally, TSA and british customs can do as they please, nobody in dogbusiness cares as there are tons of takers for good shepherds all over the world

final statement about british customs, they pay only fraction of other countries, so they most likely will be glad with everything they can get, same as german customs, and again the officers on the job want better dogs, the paperpushers make sure they dont get it

There would not be any need for pointy eared dogs, nor drop eared explosives detector dogs if the governments of all our countries did not allow the people in who carry explosive onto planes that dogs are needed to detect before the terrorists are successful in their mission.

Here's me thinking it was about pointy ears v floppy eared dogs and how they do their job for the Transportation/ Homeland Security, silly old me. Didn't think it was about how many potential terrorists king of the sweep overs, TRUMP, had stopped at the border. Didn't think it was about Birmingham, or stabbings/knife crime in London England either...silly old me again.

Think most know what I meant, we don't want the USA v England crime statistics please, or how great Donald is compared to Theresa......that kind of politics not welcome and I will delete it if it continues.

There is no reasoning behind it, only irrational actions. This thread is about TSA ! ditching prick eared dogs over drop eared dogs for polical correctness insanity....and the ramifications to our safety...after all TSA is transportation SAFETY agency.

The terrorist crimes in our countries and arrests at borders in our countries that create NEED for explosives detector dogs, is in direct correlation to the leadership ( irregardless of hair style).

Dogs used for keeping our country safe ( irregardless of earset) are more  effective with leaders of our agencies implementing policies that drive out the ones delivering explosives into our lives.

If all we are allowed to discuss is the differences between prick ears and drop ears...done. no need for a forum if that's all we are allowed to discuss.....go to wicki and get the answers.
