The Merrimack Valley Working Dog Club in New England is hoisting a AWD Championship in October. I really hope this catchs on in other regions and some time in the future would turn into a National trial.

 What is AWD?

by Bob McKown on 25 April 2014 - 20:04

The AWD titles are American Workinf Dog titles. Offered by the AWDF and USA in a nut shell there scored like the old Schutzhund titles and use the old routine to trial. The 1 has the old attack on handler from the blind. The 2 is like the old DPO routines with 2 helpers at a time in protection. The 3 is simillar to the IPO 3. The dog is given a rating for numbered rating for courage and hardness just like the old Schutzhund ratinf system. I like them.

So the work here is actually biting .. I was hoping for herding or some other sort of work.  I have trained my dogs to go into WalMart parking lots and retreive all of the Truck Nuts they can find .. this public service work includes biting, chewing and retreiving.  If any of the AWD membership has lost their truck nuts now they know what happened to them.  I am starting the American Truck Nuts Retreiver Association which will also offer a working title for working dogs.  The TN3 title involves retreiving from a moving truck.
