A young mother contacted me in need of rehoming her german shepherd, MOLLY.   She was raised with her children and has done wonderfully with them and also has had two medium size  male dogs she's gotten along well with.  They've had her since she was a little puppy and according to the owner some of her littermates are currently working police K9 dogs with local area depts. They allowed Molly to play with two goats for a period of time until they left her unsupervised and loose with them one day and came home to find she had killed both goats... attacked by the throat. SHe was also allowed to play with their two ducks also..... YEP.... same thing, Mollie did them in. They also feel she killed a female chihauha they had as came home to find her dead one day also.  But now Mollie is really starting to get into trouble as she chased a kid riding a bicycle up their driveway and grabbed ahold of his leg! Fortunately thick coveralls the boy was wearing prevented her from breaking the skin. . . she's been chasing other kids in the area too. . so now they are going to have to tie Molly back up. . . . (she'd been left tied for a periord of time as they have no fencing) .....

The owner said Molly has been a great dog but has had no training at all. . . . IS there anyone who would be interested in providing this beauty with a home and something productive to do to keep her from getting killed??  Biting at kids and killing small livestock will definatley get her pts or a bullet in her head!! Sad to say, and it's not Molly's fault as you know. . . I've got tentative plans on meeting Molly on the 16th when the lady can bring her to Beckley. In the meantime she's posted on FB as needing a new home and I'm preying she doesn't get placed locally in an unsuitable home. . . .

is there anyway to get her to Kansas or Colorado?

I'm not personally able to get her that far but anything is possible with help of the GSD community...

The young lady who owns this dog just was in touch and she is still needing to find her a new home. . . but has not been able to bring her to my area so I can meet her. . .She is back doing chain duty again. . . Hoping to meet her sometime in the next few weeks and get more info and pictures of her!  The family debated keeping her after their 20 yr old neighbor living in front of broke into another neighbor's house...The home owner, a middle aged lady, returned home during the break in and he murdered her!!! I think I"d be keeping Molly and getting another one like her with those kind of people living in the area!! Really a bad area for Rx  drug related crimes!!!

How about directing the family to a locate Shutzhund club?  This will not solve the prey problem and they do not necessarily have to compete.  This is more to help the family learn to work with the GSD.  There also maybe a herding club/training center.  This would be best so that the dog can learn to herd and not kill.  Again, I still do not recommend leaving the dog alone with the livestock, but from the sounds of things, the family need a good deterrent in their home.

What's the dog's registered name? Is she microchiped?

Fawndallas that would be the ideal answer but unfortunatley not possible. . . we have no Schutzhund clubs anyplace close to that area...or most any area here in WV!!.... even decent obedience classes or trainers are at least a 2+ hour drive. If it were me I"d really be doing something to re-consider getting rid of her in light of the recent break-in/murder in the neighorhood.  The dog may have been the only reason that guy didn't break into their home!!  Though the husband originally said he was going to "work with" Molly when they got her as a pup, that never happened. Another sibling of Molly's belongs ot a relative who spent time training it and they said the dog is well behaved. . .and at least one other sibling is a working PD K-9 she told me...But husband's main interests now are with coaching kids sports and they spend all their weekends at kids' events and NO time for Molly or dog training. Grandparents are encourging for them to get rid of her as they are 'afraid' she will bite the kids in light of her having killed the goats.!! They don't want the grandkids near the dog.. though the mom says Molly has been fine with the kids!  Most peoplet just don't do any research on the breed prior to getting them as you well know. . . and when so many people new to GSDs are looking for a gsd puppy they like the 'bragging rights' of  having one who's related to a working PD K-9 . . .which many times doesn't work out too well

Agree with FD 100%. Sounds like a great dog in need of training. I would do all I could to get her in the hands of someone who knows how to train. There is so much of this going on. The dog is in total control. Not a good thing.

Who is the breeder? Does any one know this dog's name?

So sad.  I have learned enough to know the dog is beyond my skill set and time.  She sounds like a great dog, just a typical GSD that has not been trained.  Livestock is fair game to an untrained herding dog.

I have one contact on the East Coast.  I will ask.
