Actually ILMD we are talking about a project that could benefit all showlines, not just the American dogs.

" The publics needs have changed a tad. :) So should have trials "
What kind of trials would YOU like to see? Any realistic idea? Maybe you have a better idea of testing your dogs. What do you do instead?

Do GSD folks EVER agree on anything?

by susie on 07 July 2014 - 20:07
Seldom...
Even in my country there are heroes and there are followers, thinking by yourself is no good idea, but thanks to the German breeding rules we have to work together at least partially. As soon as there were no more rules over here, you wouldn´t see any difference any more.

I don't think there are many showline people who even post here anymore. Is there the same divide in Germany between the showline breeders and the workingline breeders?

by susie on 07 July 2014 - 20:07
Unfortunally yes, but we still do have the "normal" breeders producing "normal" dogs, internationally people don´t hear about them and their dogs, because their dogs are not fancy enough for a VA rating , or they are not "over the top" enough for the Siegerprüfung.

WAIT...hold everything...ILMD, are you being serious in your remark about this being recommended by judges to show people and their dogs, what?

by susie on 07 July 2014 - 21:07
I don´t want to hear the answer...

by Hired Dog on 07 July 2014 - 21:07
Oh no Susie, I DO want to hear the answer...it will tell us how low some people have sank with regards to breeding their "version" of what used to be a working dog.

Do you really believe that the people responsible for creating the Am. dog are going to improve on what the Germans do.
Are you only looking for input to fit your vision. Maybe mix ASL and GSL to straighten out the back on the German dog. Hopefully give the Am. dog enough nerve to stand for the judges exam, maybe fix the washed out colors on the Am. dog. Generations of full mouth German dogs to fill in the gaps in that Am. select's mouth.
Really what is it you see as needing improvement, then maybe you get more serious suggestions.
