Don't be - it's a big book with a lot in it, and I'm not saying it is without value.  But much of what is purported to be God's word in the Old Testament and even the non-Gospel portions of the New Testament does not exactly match up well with the teachings of Jesus.

I believe the Bible is the word of living God (Cover to cover) Until if somebody could show me contradictions - otherwise It holds superior respect that I have for the Bible.

Take care,

I'm going to bed :)

Unfortunately, there comes a time when it is difficult to be neutral even for a diplomatic person like myself...: )

We can debate till the cows come home and nothing much will be accomplished....

With most things we can bend and mold them into something more practical, appealing, and acceptable., not so with the Word of God...

God, is what most would consider narrow minded about topics most of us think more casual about...

As humans, God has certainly given us the freedom to reject or accept his Word...However, changing it to fit our agenda is not an option..

I admit that there are a handful of scriptures whose meaning will probably not be understood in this life...Also, there are another handful of scriptures that can be distorted or misunderstood by people who are poorly indoctrinated....

However, the overwhelming majority of Gods Word is very consistent, clear and concise....Not contradicting as many suggest...My children can read and understand most of the contents therein....

I am different then Shtal and Gouda ( bless their hearts ) and some others, as I will not argue to defend Gods Word...It is my opinion that Gods Word needs no defending...

I can not beat folks over the head to believe some of what I even consider to be outlandish Bible stories, and doctrines...

It's about FAITH...And that not of ourselves, it is a gift from God, so that no man can boast....: )

I will sum it up like this...If you have no interest in God and the Bible go your way. Ignore the ranting and ravings that are contained in this thread. Live your life as you please, the way you please and call it a day. Do what you feel is right and let your conscious and intellect be your guide. You are comfortable and confident that you are prepared to meet whatever comes next......

However, if your are compelled to something else....Praise the Lord....

 *****************************************************************

But someone may well say, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works."

Hi

Acts 22:1

Pauls defence of the Gospel.

God had changed his mind by a miraculas conversen. This was followed by a commission to proclaim the Gospel. Pauls testimony ignited the fury of the orthodox Jews.
Paul knew the ground on which he stood... SOLID ROCK,he was resting on Christs promises.
Most Christians today are rusting on the premises. Ruger 1 Gods word does need to be defended,Paul said so Acts 22:1  Our witnesses must be to all men not to a select few who cheerfully receive us;but to all men. ACTS 22:15.  WE MUST NEVER BE SILENT.

Acts 23:11

Acts 22:15  For thou shalt be His witness unto all men of what thou has see and heard.
Yes Deanna the gospel must, and needs to be defended

Gouda obviously your aim is to make sure anyone on this board, who is not a Christian, not only never wants to become one, but never even wants to be within 10 feet of one.  You have done a really good job of making sure the very idea of Christianity  leaves an awful taste in the mouth of the non-Christians who have participated on this thread.  Congratulations!!

"It's about FAITH..."

Why?  What possible reason could there be for someone's salvation to rest on something so incredible?  Why not simply show Himself and remove any doubt?  He's God, He could do that; right?

Keith, in the scriptures Jesus did miracles but yet people didn't always believe.  People still wanted to kill him.  Yes, God could show himself, but honestly....I don't think that would make many more believe than there already are.  People always say, if I could just see miracles like they did in biblical days, then I'd believe...or things similar.  I don't think people would, just because of the way many were in biblical days regarding things like that. In general, people haven't changed.  Just like Jesus fasting, he was tempted by Satan to turn the rocks into bread.....He is God come in the flesh, he could have....but what would it have proved?  There is a passage in Exodus 33 where Moses is talking to God.....

And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

21And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:

22And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:

23And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

Here is what Jesus said, and also my reply.
John 7:7   The world cannot hate you,but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil.

The hate of the non believer is a natural response to Jesus pointing out evil.

So that leaves your congrdulations,in worldly order Sueincc.

God exists because the scriptures say so and the scriptures get their authority from God?  Quite the circular argument; wouldn't you say?

Jesus says ....who do you say I am?...the only question you need answer.....

Wouldn't you say?
