Thanks so much for the pictures and illustrations! I think you are right, he looks like he is between a 2 or 3. The more i look at pictures etc the more his pasterns look pretty good to me. I think his feet are a little on the flat side...maybe that is why she said his "wrists" were so terrible. I am still going to continue to do agility and schutzhund with him, I think the benefits of the sports outweigh the risks of "breaking him down."
He does have a pretty well rounded exercise program with A TON of swimming when it's not freezing cold out.
Thanks,
Kristi.

WOW !! Looking at those photo's of weak pasterns sure have me questioning my vet too !! When my girl was taken in to be x-ray'd H&E I was told she too had weak front pasterns ... yikes -- not like these photos of that dog on his/her pasterns tho... I was worried when I heard her tell me so I thought we had no chance in the show ring ... but I think my girls are very slight if judging by these ... Do those who feed raw think it's an issue of too much calcium or protein ?Somewhere I had read that once dog was placed on kibble it corrected itself ??? My dogs are strictly fed raw.

The problem is that "most vets" and people....think that the pasterns are supposed to be straight....which is incorrect.
They are supposed to have a slight angle to them....

Slight being the operative word. 22 degrees, if I remember correctly.

I agree on not assuming vets are breed experts. I love my vet hospital but once one of the techs insisted my dog Nikon would be over 100lbs because of his paws. He is 3.5 years old, good bone, correct size, masculine dog and weighs 70-75lbs.
