Bee tree: The reverse mask comes from a dog much farther back: Ex vom Riedstern and probably even further back than Ex himself ~aakay
Hans: Of course they came from dogs before Ex!!!You can see it on Ex's pedigree here on PDB>

None is disputing that. Except none of these dogs as far as I know have any known consistent production of dogs in today except the lines which were going through Ex von Rieddstern.

Someone mentioned the Hobo dogs, from the Littlest Hobo TV series. They all had the reverse mask. I have the owner's book that he wrote about his first dog, London (London: The Dog Who Made the Team).
Hans:
Little hobo series was running 1963 - 1965. Ex V riedstern was born 1966 . There is no correlation between any progeny today and Hobo dog. Nor between Hobo or Ex. That is quite obvious.

Johan77 interesting material. Thank you ! I am sure there are more dogs with reversed mask which have no Ex in their lines. I am just saying that dogs with reverse mask who do have Ex in their line have certain temperament characteristics. That is why I have asked Mithuna to provide pedigree for me so that if that is the case that in his dog's pedigree is Ex and his dog has reverse mask then his dog's temperament issues may be genetic. If there would be no Ex then I would make such suggestion. My point was not to show people that I have "crystal ball" and can tell that his dog has Ex in it . I was just exploring such possibility. I was just seeing certain points in mithunas description in the temperament of his dog that since her dog has reversed mask that it could lead to Ex which would help Mithuna to understand his dog. All the conspiracy theories are totally unrelated to what I was trying to say. Just for refresment of everybody's memory here is what I have said:
I see reversed mask which usually ( not always) indicates dog named Ex v Riedstern in the past parts of pedigree. (1966) .http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=5548-ex-vom-riedstern
If that is the case that would explain a lot. That dog was type 1 dog - and paste it down the line quite routinely to his progeny. That gene was so dominant that we can still clearly see it in some dogs. I suspect from the picture your dog may be his descendant. Another example of such dog is famous and legendary Lord von Gleisdreieck who has reversed mask too and he too was type 1 dog - quite bad ass.
I hope that that clarifies it for you and others with similar concern.

But, where from Ex got the temperament? It's possible that it was the same dog who passed the reverse mask also.
But, it's next to impossible that Ex managed to pass "almost 100%" times the behavioral recessive to the dogs who got the reverse mask from him, or all the bad ass dogs from Ex were also reverse masked.
Any GSD "worth it's salt" can become agressive if the owner knows how to do that, or if the owner doesn't know how to prevent that.

Think this thread has ran its course.

The OP has a Reverse Mask dog which is also agressive.
The correlation between the two, and an attempt to find out whether it's a myth or not, will not only help the OP understand his dog better, but also will help others in future.
So far, only one person (BW) has vehemently opposed the notion, while other people who actually owned one preferred to keep silent about the nature of their individual dogs.
Their inputs would have been very helpful.

I agree, though i was the one who called it a myth i did not comment any further on the subject. off topic.
Sure want to elaborate more on this subject.

Ditto that. And all things off-topic aren't necessarily waste of time. 👍
