Good Looking Front, standing narrow in back, but straight, and no sign of cow or bow hocks.

GSD Lineage, that picture is from when she was 8 months old.  I also hand set her there and set her too far in line with her other legs.  I was only using that photo to show how dark her eyes were :)  I'll try and get a new freestacked picture of her, though I am inclined to agree that she stands a bit narrow in the rear on her own.

I'll let you decide and re evaluate when I get a new photo :)  And no, I am very proud to say she is not cow or bow hocked.  No hock callouses, either.

She looks good, Xeph.

Deutscher49 - this is what the FCI breed standard has to say about toplines of the GSD.

The overline proceeds from the neck, continuing over the high, long withers and over the straight back through the slightly sloping croup without abrupt change.

This means NO ROACH.

Hi Xeph,

A black tan (could be considered a bi-color) German Shepherd female of medium size and strength, slightly stretched, rich pigment, outstanding head and good expression. Very good strong head of good proportions and dark eye, good strong neck but slightly loose skin at the throat, high and long withers, slightly long (but strong) straight back, good loin, slightly (only slightly, when related to total back length) short croup and slightly (only slightly) steep croup, good tail and tailset. Good deep rear angulation, nice upper and lower thigh bones, good strong hocks. Nice underline, straigh front legs, good strong pasterns (from 1st picture), just good front upper arm length but steep, fore chest development could also be better, just good shoulder lay back. A beautiful female no doubt, All pieces fit nicely together, I am more used to the German type where front upper arm has more angulation and more fore chest development, I have seen videos of Americam GSDs that cover groung and show excellent front reach, also stable back in trot.

Thanks, Ibrahim :) I always love reading your critiques, no matter whose dog or what lines you are critiquing. They're wonderful to read.

Glad to see I fooled you into thinking she's medium sized ;)  She's actually a bit large, and I am hoping to bring her size down a bit (needs to be a bit lower on leg).

I like reading Ibrahim's Critiques as well, and he really picks up on things.
Now that we have digital you can practice taking pictures in a large variety of lighting situations, experiment and even come up with something new and striking. I liked the snow one as well. I hope you make a gallery for her in the future. Picture film used to be so expensive we never did what can be done today.

Your female looks so much like her Great Great Great Grandfather, who had those dark eyes as well, and was very high/tall.

Hock callouses??? Is that a common problem?

THINGS I LIKE ABOUT HER:

Eyes- very nicely shaped and dark. Kind expression- looks like someone is home.

Front- very nice. 'Nuff said.

Pasterns

Overall bone- looks nice and sturdy without being too masculine

THINGS I DON'T PREFER.......I say "don't prefer" because ASL as a whole are a totally foreign (lol) language to me, so things look weird to me that if you're used to them may not look weird at all.........so take it all with a grain of salt!

Head- seems weird...like ears are too big and face is too narrow and ears are too far apart and angled. I like my ears pointing straight North. If I were to draw a line in the middle of a GSD's ears from center of base to tip, I like the lines to be parallel and straight. Does that make sense? (FYI, I don't even know if that is "proper"- I'm just saying it's what I *like*).

Back- she's stretched, which accentuates the ASL look a bit more which is what I think a few folks are reacting negatively to.

I'm not sure how you're going to bring her size down...but that sounds bloody. Tongue Smile  I think I'd leave her as she is!

GSD Lineage

The ears should be parallel to each other and perpendicular to the ground in the GSD. But, some GSDs in all lines/bloodlines have a deviation one way or another, and judges & breeders overlook that if more important things are there!

Two head and sets of ears I adore are member Ruger1's avatar dog & that blue member susie reposted on your photo update thread.

Jenni78, you are right about underjaw and jaw strength in the ASL, they tend to be less strong there.
Almost everything is sidegait in that world.

What GSD Lineage did is marvelous, the resemblance in expression is obvious
