I have my pup with the collar on at age 9 months right now. Low level stim while in drive and getting praise i.e playing ball or tracking. pup is learning that E Collar can be used as PRAISE as well as negative reinforcement. if you know how to use it is an amazing tool. Can't think of it as a correction device only though....think of it as an extension of your hand. you should be able to conveye praise, direction, and corrections with it. Enables you to do all of these actions from a distance.

I cannot attest to how good he is with e-collars, or effective, etc, but Jim Sears is doing an E-Collar seminar titles "Proper and Humane use of the E-Colla" March 2nd at Illinois Schutzhund & Police Club. that may be something to look into. I have the flyer for the seminar if you would like. Just let me know

"
If the dog is never allowed to do something you don't want ON lead and if it is trained correctly so that everything is solid then when you take the lead off, it will make no difference to the dog and you should for the most part only get the behaviours that you WANTED. |
Apologies for any confusion.

You may want to find a working dog club in
your area. Just because you don't want to "do"
schutzhund, doesn't mean you cannot go train at
a club. There are plenty of people doing obedience
and tracking titles only. You don't *have* to do
bitework if you don't want to
