Ears - I think they should be parallel.  I don't like the kind that sort of curve out.

I love the ears on Cimi and could tolerate even a tad larger


Alta-Tollhaus Gavin has good ears, I like them a lot (seen in person multiple times)


I like my female's ears the best of all my GSDs, though they be a tad to "sharp"


My SL male's ears are a bit too big and set a bit too wide (for my ideal taste)


My working line male's ears are better than the SL I think but a bit big, however he is very young so his head needs to fill out to match the ears!




That is just my opinion.  I've shown all my dogs in different venues and have never had negative comments on any of their ears but as you can see they are different.

Interesting thread! I can't see the name of the person that posted above me that post started with the pic of cimi, my screen keeps cutting off your name sorry. Yes your working boy will fill out and fill into his ears, that is a very good ear set.  If there are a lot of changes in the heads especially it was mentioned sls, I assume they are trying to accomplish something that is either directly or indirectly affecting head shape and ear set.  What is that?

Recently I've noticed several high-placing showlines that have the muzzles and headtype that reminds me of a rottweiler -- short muzzle, heavy in the jowl, rather small eyes.

While I think this looks great on a rott, I'm not a fan of it on the GSD. Some heads looked odd to me. Never thought about the domed head, but now that it's been pointed out, I can see it. The dome was what really struck me as odd; just didn't consciously notice it.

I love this head-type! His ears are a bit small, but when he's on-point they are closer to parallel. Nice big eyes ("the better to see you with!"), and a broad muzzle that isn't shortened. ... (yes, he's fat. I know. He was 15yrs in the top picture. The bottom picture he was 6 or 7.)

I've been checking the gangs ears today too. Mostly paralell, when alert (especially when they spotted those squirrels!) and not just schlepping around LOL!

I see a lot of variation in ears, but so long as they aren't down or soft, nor huge and wide set or very small, I rather like the slight variations that occur.

   My Aleit, she is 8. I do not have a judge critique for her to share about what they deemed her head in their opinion as I never received it from NASS. I am including critiques as I do feel what comments were given by judges are a help when looking at these dogs versus what we may think of them personally.

Sicheres Wesen, TSB ausgeprägt; läßt ab. V. Trockener, fester Rüde in richtigem Verhältnis aufgebaut. VI. Geeignet zur Verbesserung der Hinterhandwinkelung und der Gebäudeverhältnisse.

Large, medium strength, good expression, good pigmentation, good head, high at the withers, croup should be longer and is definitely sloping, good angulation in the rear, straight in front, moves straight going and coming, free-flowing gait.

Here is one more, but a bad feature. It is loose lips, in conformation it is the opposite to "dry", it looks awful and causes serious health issues related to lips and gum infection and adhering problems etc. Please look closely at the down lip on the right.

I don't know if there is a better way to name it so I call it loose lips, maybe some one know a more technical or scientific name for this thing. Thanks

Do you have another photo of the lips as I cannot see it well in that photo?

Also if you pay close attention to his upper lips they are not tight and seem longer than the correct, let me say it this way, they continuue further than where they should end, will some one describe it better for us please !! And please don't feel obliged to be diplomatic, we are learning here so nothing hurts.

I have had english mastiff and understand well those loose flews and what it causes lol Ty for the better photos.
