Good morning
well....we purchased a house in November of last year, with "fresh paint through out"..it was a same cool grey paint in all rooms.
When we moved in i noticed that kitchen and bathroom walls looked odd, it was just one of those things that it looked good just something was off...i thought that maybe there was plaster but walls were smooth, than i thought maybe it was weird dry wall, than i thought maybe wall paper under neat but i ran my hands on 2 major walls and did not see or feel seams that wall paper leaves...so this weekend i was putting up curtain rod and saw that there was separation between top of the window and wall...and than i saw a thin line "seam" going up to the ceiling......oh man was i pissed!!!! not only did they primed and painted on top of 2 ( TWO!!!) layers of wall paper, the painters used wall patching on seams and sanded them so you cant even see the seam line.....i was so pissed off, i could not believe that they did this, i mean really???
Thank God for Tank...with all this stupidity he really made me stop and laugh, when i would tear wall paper he would try to help, well...more like he tried to make me feel better in most annoying ways like stealing screw driver when i would put it down from unscrewing light switch cover, than he would take chunks of ripped wall paper and run to the living room, he would focus sooo hard when i would pull paper off the wall that i could not help but laugh....too bad my camera was already full and i was only able to take 3 photos....

This is the entry from main hall to the kitchen - grey is the paint that is on top of wall paper, yellow  sections is the 2nd wall paper that did not come off with 1st layer, with extra glue under neat...grrrr.

here is Tank watching wall paper being torn off...

Goofy helper.

I cannot believe they went to all the effort of patching over every
seam, just so they could stick a fresh coat of paint everywhere,
without doing any other prep.   What dorks, eh ?

Sadly they may have been Brits, there are loads of examples
over here of people sticking up one layer of wallpaper over
another, over another ... then painting on top  (or even in between
like a sandwich !).    But I never came across that seams trick
before !

Happy scraping  !  Glad the Tank was enjoying the spectacle tho'.

A bummer having to scrape off all the old wall paper, but fresh paint can still be put over old wall paper. It just isn't going to stay there long :-(

Ibrahim...I agree...if he turns sideways he would disappear, thank goodness for his big head..LOL...he came with name Biggs but after a few days of him just running through things like people, gates, boxes, he just pushes through like its not there...he became Tank...because nothing stops him..i used to put folded empty box in a door way to keep dogs out of the kitchen, he just pushes it and walks right in....so yeah hence the name...hopefully as he matures he will fill in he is very young, only 18 month old. :)

P.S. i am 1/2 way done with wall paper...i discovered 3 holes in walls that are about baseball size that were just covered with wall paper so I will have get dry wall patches put in...what a mess....i will try to post complete photo once its all done and painted...

We have just bought a new home in Tenneesse and it needs painted throughout.  The previous owners (house was foreclosed) took shelving down in one of the bedrooms leaving lime green stripes on a pink wall, very stylish.  Once we get moved in, we need to build kennels, any one going through the area near Sparta TN is welcome to stop by.

I have read the subject line of this thread over and over again, and now that I've actually read your post, I must say, it was not what I had thought it was about.Teeth Smile

It's worse.

What a mess, too bad you can't bill them for the labour.  My mom and dad just bought a new house, and we spent days stripping old layers of wall paper off before we could paint.  Ugh.
Sure looks nice now though.

well, this is a truly pain in the a** process....it is taking painfully long to peal paper, than to spray everything and to scrape residual (glued) paper portions...my kitchen looks like a disaster...i am going to have to post completed kitchen update once we are done....and oh yeah...we are looking for new counter tops which will follow by back splash...we just have not agreed on colors yet...i want it all in white and light creams, since it is a Ranch house and maybe white granite with white subway tile or glass tile...and we have hardwood floors which eventually i will strip and stain into something darker (its your typical light maple color right now)....someone else thinks that black counter tops are the way to go with dark tile...so...for now I am just dewallflowering kitchen walls....
