I see them all the time for top Working dogs from these countries 4 and 5 year old dogs with svv1 . When you see them here the work is very bad which is reason they have not got the 2 or 3. Many of them know very few obedience commands or can track in grass. The protection work usually consist of bites and very little obedience in the protection work. The prices are crazy they ask. Sure 1 out of thousand may have decent training. The only ones you see with decent training and titles are from the Anerbria guy. Have we all become so gullible that we fall for anything?

Cop dogs,
You're putting a lot of fish in one bucket. You said dogs you see all the time , one out a thousand? is decent trained. If the only good trained ones are from Anriebri , maybe you're looking in the wrong places. There is dog peddlers in every country.

You  would be amazed how good some of those dogs work for their Czech owners in their country. I think alot has to do with the handler and the lack communication between the dog and the new handler.  Prices yes they are getting crazy that's for sure. What I find most amazing is the shipping costs....now that's a rip off!!!!

There are many reasons for dogs failinfg after import.
I have answered this question here :
http://alpinek9.freeforums.org/why-do-top-imported-dogs-not-work-t31.html
 But more often then not
it is caused by missunderstanding of the needs of the dog which went throuh extereme change. We are talking here about top dogs. Right?

from slovakia, the dogs must be driven for many hours to get to frankfurt. the price of gasoline over there is 5.00+ a gallon, include a passport with 2 different vet stamps, health certificate and a shipping crate.

from slovakia, the shipping cost is much more then just the cost of airfare. Slovakia to JFK is more like 850 or 900 USD

I can't believe the pretzels that people are willing to bending into to answer this simple question. LOL

Copdog, I'll keep it simple. The dogs don't look good when they get to the US because didn't look good in Czech. Top dogs don't fall apart just because they take a plane ride.

Chris,

Most of what you say is true, but it's a different situation if it's a good dog and it just won't work at a high level for it's new handler.

What Hans has pointed out is probably the most accurate explanation. I let my dog settle in for a month and a half before working her. We did do some testing with her 3 weeks after her arrival but that was it. I walked her, fed her and just let her adjust. When I started working her it was short session starting from scratch, basic obedience positions and once we were on the same page I moved on to the next thing. She has a ZVV1 and I just took it slow working her thru in each phase. It helped alot because she understood what I expected on a very basic level instead of expecting her to do everything she's capable of doing. It really helped us bond and it took a lot of the confusion out training. She works well for me now and can be taught new things very easily.
