Uber Land

by Uber Land on 20 November 2010 - 22:11

being that I own 2 males, one being 8 yrs old and the other coming up on a year, I figured it was time to invest in a couple nice kennels.  my boys get along very well, but playing musical crates in the house can get taxing at times when a girl is in heat.. my older boy can tear thru chainlink likes is butter. and the young guy is a whinner inside if someone is in heat.

I was curious if anyone could suggest a decent, though fair price welded panel type kennel forsale, or would be willing to post pictures of what they have as an example.  I have looked at some coated/welded panels from tractor supply which seem to be reasonable ($600 for a 10x10 kennel thats 6ft high with welded panels got 2x4 inch squares) , but I need something that will hold up to this big boy wanting out, lol. I plan on getting him nuetered soon, so that might take some of the stress off.  I have also consider building with cinder blocks as a backwall, and using strong galvanized cattle panels doubled up so its about 8 feet tall for the sides and gate.

an suggestions would be appreciated.  just don't want to be out alot of money to have them tore up in no time.

plus I have 2 bitches, 1/2 sisters, who just HATE each other.  they were fine, then one day decided it was going to be to the death, and I haven't trusted them together since.  So I have to alternate them being inside and one being outside.  I don't want a mistake to happen and they be let together again.

damn bitches! LOL

I'd be leery of that one Uber.  You might want to check the gauge of the wire.  I bought one here (in Canada)- sounds like the same type of thing for $400 five or so years ago, and my dog had a hole chewed through the door the first day.  A waste of money.

I visited Brycehaus kennel years ago, and he had some nice welded panels, I may see where he got them from.  I'm leaning towards small square cattle panels though, they can be cut with a torch to fit the size I need.  just hate chain link.

my uncle goes around and buys material from auctions, he used to have some welded veterical bar panels that were used for store front security bars, may see if he still has those too.

That one says it is 4 gauge wire, sounds very strong!  I'll bet mine is 11 or higher.

I have 8 or 9 gauge and have not had a problem. Part of the success, I think, is that they don't see a weak spot, like they typically do w/chain link.

I have the ultra series from Optionsplus.com

My runs are 5 gauge and my dogs haven't done too much damage to them...A couple of them have bent a little bit of them...but nothing too serious...
Uber Land...Where can you find "small square cattle panels"?...I bought a couple "Goat Panels" at Tractor Supply but they've got like 4" X 4" holes...I'd like to find something with smaller openings so I can close in a run that had 11 gauge chain link in...My wife used them for her Yorkies for awhile...but now she's given them to me for my puppies but they can stick their heads through those holes...Not safe at all...
There was a place here in Michigan that made panels for cargo...they were great for dog runs...That's what my runs are made of...they're the ones that are 5 gauge...

Jenni...My runs in Florida were made of 9 gauge chain link...They ate their way throught them...I DON'T like chain link...
In Europe they seem to have much better types of panels that make up their dog runs...One of the problems in the U.S. is that to ship these things will cost an arm and a leg...

the 2x4 inch panels I have found are either called horse panels (so they can't get the feet in them and bend the fence), or goat panels.  I have found them at tractor supply many times. we also have smaller lumber yards in north Texas and fence companies that carry them.
