I would like to see some videos & pedigrees of some $3000 SchH 3 dogs. I find it hard to believe but some videos would change that. I need some proof. If your going to knock Hans then id like to see these great dogs going for dirt cheap. Talk is cheap.

I think you will see enough very old bloodlines, high titles, dogs from Czech/Slovak/USA nationals AND a lot of production that has gone to police.

Yes, please listen to Hans.   A dog has to adjust to his handler.  and the handler may have to learn some new skills too.

Good luck and enjoy!

ok, one more comment, I liked the "whore" comment and I will use your line.  There is an importer close to me that insists that those dogs get right out of the box from the airport cargo hold and bite the sleeve.   What a twit.

Nowdays, $3000 does not buy you a high qualitly titleable (is that a word?) dog.  Sorry.  Even traveling there and shopping with my frequent flyer card won't get me that today. A  young green dog maybe.

It's like looking at Kentucky Derby racehorses next to Thistledown.  They may both run in races but they don't race in the same company.

When I buy dogs, I buy young dogs and select on capability, then I keep them with a trainer.  I purchased Urxi as a ZVV2.  His trainer was amazing and credit goes there.  Same with Zar Milvel.  Another "pinhooking" was Choi von der Wilden Nachbarschaft purchased before he was titled and was slated for Bundesseiger material.  Or you just run into someone very down on their luck and they have to sell their dog immediately.

Thanks poster, this was a fun topic.

So true a bad czech dog is bad not matter where the trainer is working with him,too many Czech dogs look nice but too many times alot of fluff and yes price way high, people are buying on the hype like the most popular pair of jeans at the moment with so many good breedings in America,West Germany and others, why just buy on nice color?Czech blood can destroy many years of super working lines so be careful.

by tomf on 03 December 2010 - 00:12

so true, these dogs will be ruined within 10 years. everyone is jumping on the Czech bandwagon!!!
Few of the Master breeders are mixing west working with East with very nice results, but 90% of the knuckleheads out there will try and soon, too soon, this bloodline of the German shepherds will be gone :(( sad.
it's all about money.5 years ago show lines were "IT" now it's the Czech dogs.thank goodness i have my stock :)

OK let me see if I understand it properly.
All Czech dogs are bad and about color and will destroy everything and all West German dogs are good "working"dogs.
Got it! (Not)

tom and bundishep must be young?  when I first entered GSD's German dogs were IT (Don von Driedorferick era) then East German dogs were IT(never figured this one, lots of "sharp" dogs) all because Czech dogs were unavailabe unless you had a very good friend in the military because Czechoslovakia WAS Czechoslovakia.  Then democracy and dogs became readily available to the general public.   many national competitors (mostly europeans) bought and competed with czech dogs.   ah, and they still do.  ( see Japan, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, etc)  Italy and Japan were HOT in the mid 90's competition circuit with their czech dogs.  Gent Policia in the mid 90's was one of Germany's top producers?

The high quality dog still is and the junk still is regardless or origin.  Those of us who breed high end always will, thank you.  If you know anything about the horse racing industry, it compares well.

Oh, a little more history guys, there has always been some minor crossing of German dogs with Czech dogs.  Please look back further on those pedigrees?   We who cross do so for very specific reasons.  Remember?  There is some real common ancestry back there?  Oh wait!  Now for those Russian German shepherds?

Problems?  here is one that goes under the radar, some of those great working line Dutch german shepherds produce a little too much spondylosis for my taste.  Anyone here xray those backs at 5-6 years of age? Ah, genetics is a powerful tool.

So, original poster, great question.  Really!   Videos are  used too much for selection when it should not be used much at all.  If I can train a horse to jump through hoops, stand on his hind legs with a plume on his head, what do you think we can train a dog, whos instinct by nature is to bite and chase  even if he is a mediocre dog?   And the unknowing who thinks all "Czech" or "German" or whatever is the same because of it's country of origin.

so how can we help?
