My New Pup! - Page 1

Well I have a new pup!  I just got her this past Tuesday (11 weeks old) and she is doing great.  I curently have a 16 month old who is in Sch training currently.  My plans for this pup are to do the samething.  Thanks to the advice from you guys (Slam, Jen & others), I am keeping them seperated to ensure that she bonds to me.  They have only been out together twice for a total of 5 minutes.  I will keep them seperated for a number of months.  The routine is when 1 dog is out the other one is in their crate.
I have started tracking with both when I get home from work.  I take one dog, go out and make a scent box and start the beginning of tracking.  Then go back home switch dogs and do the samething.  Only thing I do is flirt pole her 2-3x a day for 5 minute sessions and just let her run around.  I keep food with me all the time so I can work on her recall.

Right off the bat I have noticed these things with her.
1.  Full mouth bites with no problem.  It caught me by surprise  If she doesn't have a full mouth bite she quickly regrips to do so.  She has gotten my arm & hand more than enough times.
2.  The first time I went up the stairs she followed me with no hesitation.  Up and down like she had done it before.  I expected her to sit at the stairs and cry when  I went up.  When she followed me I said to myself "oh shit".  Then when I went downstairs I expected her to naturally be scared and not go down.  To my surprise she went down with no problem.  Not bad for a first time seeing stairs.
3.  I hide in a dark room and call her name to see if she will come and find me.  She does.  I reward with food.

That's about it right now.  I'm just letting her be a pup now.  I did forget about the barking in the crate.....dear God.  You can hear her 3 houses down the street (not exaggerating).  Certainly interesting to compare her to my 16 month old in terms how how they are similar and different.  Anything else I should try and notice/watch for?

Congratulations on your new pup - she's absolutely gorgeous! But then I'm a sucker for all GSDs.

I'm sorry I can't advise you or answer your question as I've only just started in SchH myself. I took on a 6 month old pup last Tuesday and started training almost immediatey. Of course each day he gets to know me better is an improvement. Although housetraining is something of an issue right now as he's been in a kennel but that will sort itself with time and training.

Anyway, I thought I'd wish you luck and congratulations again.

What a goegeous little girl. Not surprising about all you mentioned, Vito is her grandfather on her mothers side. Google him.
