Why is her ear tip losing hair? - Page 2

Riva has been on grain-free since she was one year old:  Wellness, Canidae, Legacy......  I rotate protein and carb sources to avoid allergies.  This is not due to being on a poor diet.  This is how she looks overall.  Her coat is not affected, just the ears.

 I didn't ask because I thought she was on a poor diet I asked because I thought this might be because of an intolerance to a certain ingredient in the diet. She has a beautiful coat but because of the ear tips losing hair and you have eliminated all of the obvious reasons such as dermitis and ear mites then in my opinion it is either an allergy to a certain protein or carb source in the diet or she is not digesting the Omega 3's as she should be. If she were my dog, I would get Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil 100% pure 1000mg and give her one a day. I would feed a grain free food, but one with only 1 protein and 1 carb source.  I am not a vet, but my shepherd having EPI has me learning more about canine nutrtion than I ever thought I would have to.  Shepherds are notorious for digestion and malabsorption issues. They are a high energy high drive dog that perhaps require more supplementation than other breeds that are more sedate. The b vitamins and omega 3's that are found in raw prey are much easier to absorb into a dogs bloodstream and therefore I believe should be supplemented when feeding a kibble to a working shepherd. The tips of the ears are the furthest that blood as to flow to nourish and perhaps by the time the blood is reaching the ear tips it is now devoid of any of the vitamins and nutrients that feed the hair follicles.  Adding a tablespoon of virgin coconut oil to your pups dinner as well as putting it on the ear tips may help as well. Like I said, I am not a vet, but if you have eliminated all skin rashes and mites and nothing seems to be working topically, then this is an internal issue and most internal issues boil down to diet. This is just my opinion.
