Hello Everyone, This is horrifying news. The way these dogs were killed is simply inhuman. But I would like to bring to attention specially western world different viewpoint on this "Killing dogs" subject. In third world countries or developing countries stray dogs is a big problem and mostly those people who sit in the office of anti cruelty societies are not the sufferers due to this problem. The sufferer is the common man who goes to office, whose kids and family members go to school and market by walking or on cycle. In some areas these stray dogs have become a terror and in some cases dogs have killed innocent children or attacked a adult person and injured him/her seriously. People who go on cycle or scooter are chased by these dogs due to which many accidents have happened I have experienced this in past. In India also Rabies is a big problem and the main cause is stray dogs. Actually these dogs should be treated as pests like Mosquitos or flies. These dogs are responsible for spreading many diseases like Leptospyrosis, Rabies, etc. Authorities and even people should address this problem by head and not by heart. No doubt the dogs if neede to be killed should be killed in humane way. There are many non painful ways available for that. The way dogs were killed in China is really hideous but let me tell you it has to be done for general wellbeing and health of the society. If somebody is opposing that purely on the grounds of anti cruely then even killing Mosquitos and rats and flies hsould also be banned. After all they are also living things with emotions. Just because dog is our pet animal we should not oppose this thing. Just think if your family memeber dies because of rabies due to stray dog bite what would you do? So my only request to chinese authorities is do it in "Humane way"

Dogs are not "mosquito's and rats and flies." I have to worry about someone who compares clubbing to death 50,000 dogs to killing flies. I do agree a much more humane way should've been found. But they let this get out of hand and then made a poor decision to catch back up. We're talking about people who eat dogs here. Makes me sick! I'd love to see a hungry Chinaman walk into my kennel with a fork in hand. HE'D be on the menu, not the dogs. Let's start a petition folks......I say there are WAY TOO MANY people in China, and they spread diseases like SARS, so let's go club, say, about 50,000 of them to death. :)

Sumo yes it is horrifying and i must say to you that dogs are not like mosquitos and this ferro dog situation is due to irrisponsible goverment and people letting there dogs have pups china is supost to have money so why cant there goverment lay down laws that all x breeds must be neutered and restrict the breeding of pedigree dogs to a certain amount of litters per year per person also all dogs cats must have all there jabs, however this barbaric killing should be stoped NOW how would you like it if someone came along and clubed your pet dog to death in front of you and your children??? also no one has the right to breed and skin dogs alive for fur this is horrific and cruel also if our country was a rabies country well all our dogs cats ect would have there jabs and it would be up to the indevidual person whither thay wanted to keep a pet or not but at least with ruals and regulations it helps to safeguard the country and its people after all the situation of stray dogs cats ect are man made, In portugal thay have stray dogs but thay dont go about clubing them to death nor do thay take dogs from there owners and club them to death the chinese are barbaric and horrible people As to your comment about one of my family getting rabies yes i would be very upset you may or may not rember the two rotties that killed the little girl in uk yes thay were put to sleep not club to death yes one might have wanted that as that was horrific but did the people in the uk go about clubing all rotties to death the answer is NO to the chinese goverment STOP THIS BARBARIC PRACTIC NOW

[[Dogs being walked were seized from their owners and beaten to death on the spot]] I'm sorry but there is absolutely NO excuse for this, ferral/rabies problem or not! What a barbaric act; indiscriminately killing every dog in sight.

Sumo, Sometimes it's ridiculous to be impartial and try and see all sides of a problem. I, wholeheartedly, believe this is one of those times. ...... It's regrettable that there are people in China who genuinely love and care for their pets; but, it's also quite apparent that the odds for far too many dogs living a decent life there (or should I say living at all) are just too low.

This is not the first time that China has shocked us with unthinking cruelty to animals. The morals and social norms that apply to most people do not seem to function there. Just remember, they don't think much more highly about the people there. I never thought that I would support PETA, but I will be respecting the boycott of products made in China. Lorri
