Thank you for all your information. And just to note this has nothing to do with a trophy. I was approached by the owner of a female and according to him his dog was bred and whelped in Germany. Later the pups were shipped to the US and registered as an AKC litter. He was concerned that if this was improper that he could be held in some way responsible. I have advised him to call the AKC.

Why would this be improper? This is a very common practice not only in the US but all over the world. The US now has some very outstanding GSD'S mainly due to the fact that breeders have done this and to keep improving the breed it needs to continue. You can find many outstanding breeders/kennels here in the US because of this.

Kathy..One more thing.. Are you saying he did not go thru the SV foreign registry to get them AKC papers? If be bred her in Germany and never went thru the SV then according to the AKC rules the pups are not elgible to be AKC registered. If you ever find out what the AKC tells the owner of that female let us know.

thank you all for your comments and private emails. I have received several letting me know that this question had been discussed several times (guess more people heard the story). I will let you know if I hear what AKC has to say.

Well Uwe, it was my question and it was written as I thought it (perhaps overshadowed by terminology when I sponsored Amer Bred trophies at the 2005 NASS and did ask what the definition of that was) and it was asking about registration but if Dog 1 thinks he knows better than Uwe(?) let his answer make you feel good. My question should have probably been more specific as to what "qualifies" an AKC registered litter vs a "Foreign Dog" Registration. But as I said, I have received many private emails and I think the AKC can best answer the dilemma and that is exactly what I suggested to the owner of the female and even gave him their phone number.

<<>> Well if only YOU understood what you were really asking then why get this messageboard involved? As far as asking the AKC just checktheir website it will give the answers to your questions. http://www.akc.org/reg/index.cfm?nav_area=registration Uwe

Melissa, Thank you for explaining that I was just questioning Kathy's use of fraud. Kathy, I have no worries about fruad, you were the one that used the word. I wanted to know why you were saying it. All, confusing is an understatement.
