I think you should require people to register there real names so people like spook and a few others can't say the things they do. Leerburg requires this on his site and it works nicly and more people are willing to ask questions. On this site when someone asks a question spook or one of his buddies puts them down and says ugly things to them. Please think about this as I believe it would help this site grow. What do others think.

Mrgsd2006, per an earlier post by Olafur Tryggvason (Oli) there is a type of feature that will be a function contained inside the new version of this database where a person can be blocked. How it will work, I can't say. Will the person be voted off, or receive penalties that once accumulated sufficiently cause him to lose his priveledges? I don't know, so I guess that we must wait and see. Constructive, albeit sometimes heated discussions and/or debates are things that represent some freedom of speech and until there is something said that lends itself towards libel or harrassment, then that type of discussion should not be censored in my opinion. Even the occasional foul word doesn't bother me, but of course there is an acceptable limit by our own personal standards. Often if one reads these entire heated discussions then one can glean what has really been discussed. It is sometimes very difficult to do this because the original post is not presented in its entirety and requires its owner to defend his stand by adding more facts in later posts. Or it is written so poorly that it is difficult to read or even decipher. I think most of us agree when someone crosses the line and presents posts that are inflammatory or defaming without any published facts to support them. And then we have our gadflies and our poop stirrers who are really jiggy about seeing how much grief they can dispense. We know who they are, and they surely know who they are. I, for one, am wearly of the usual clowns whose purpose is to add nothing constructive. I don't have to read a single word of their posts as I can usually predict its contents with much accuracy. It will be interesting, to say the least to see how these posters are dealt with on the new database. It's hard to simply ignore them, even for me. Really hard sometimes. Bob-O

I agree something has to be done, heavy discussion and back and forth debate is fine, but name calling and nasty words are not of any good for anyone and sure doesnt make a good representative of a sport we are suppose to be trying to get people to engage in , or owning a better gsd from one of us or to benefit knowledge way from this board, Mr Administrator, please hear our crY!!!!!!!

Mrgsd2006, maybe you will lead the way and change your ID to your real name. And also put a valid email address so people can contact you. Your asking Oli to make those requirements while you have niether your name nor email address listed is not very condusive to getting people to agree. -Tina

My last name is Moseman. C and R are my first and middle initial. Looks familiar to military personnel, doesnt it? I do think this would be a good idea. There are ways to argue in a mature and respectful manner without the immature kiddie name calling, it can be intimidating to some as it was to me at first. Im sure if we were face to face those of you who have reffered to me as a "moron" or an "idiot" wouldve kept your mouth shut. The same people here that do the name calling are probably the same ones who drive like real assholes, theyve got somewhere or something to hide behind. Something that we can all do is ignore these people and laugh. I find it pretty darn funny to see people lose thier minds and raise thier blood pressure simply because of something said on a GSD forum. The end of the day Ive still got my dogs and Im still the best thing in thier world, thats all that matters. God Bless Chipotle and Tim Hortons, been eating there a lot lately, makes my stomach happy, good stuff.

What is to stop people from lying about their real name if it were required?

by k9sar on 24 December 2006 - 15:12

I personally would like to know real names, if possible. I responded to a post several months ago re: bad dealings or misrepresentations with vendors. I gave an acount of a personal situation. I receved a nasty email and phone call from the vendor. I did not defame this person, only stated what I experienced,

I agree with mrgsd. I also post on Leerburg, and find there is far less pointless sniping there. People disagree, but generally keep it civil. I believe that Ed requires some type of documentation of poster's identities before they are allowed to register.

I also post on Leerburg. It is far more civil as people know who you are. You can not say nasty things and hide behind some screen name. There are a few on here that I personaly would like to see booted off or a least toned down a bit. I am new and I enjoy readind a learning as much as I can. I hate to ask questions on here because on certain ones calling you idiot and wannabe. Please make this site require a real name and I believe this would help more people use it. My name is Jesse Jude
