At four months old what should a puppy be working on. How far along should a puppy be as far as training or at this age do you all just them be puppies and start doing obedience and other training at 6 months or later. I have a four month old who loves to chew on her toys and go for walks. She is full of that puppy energy.

yOU SHOULD BE LETTING HER BE PUPPY BUT SHOULD BE WORKING ON TRAINING SIT AND STAY SMALL THINGS LIKE THAT BUT MUST MAKE IT ALL FUN AND REWARD HER FOR BEING GOOD[ DOG TREAT ]ECT. EVEN IF SHE SITS FOR A SECOND THIS IS GOOD AS SHE WILL DO THE EXCERSISE LONGER AS SHE GETS OLDER GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PUPPY

I'm not sure about the stay, but I have mine heel, look, and sit by that age. Teach focus and work on ball drive and retrieves. Good for excersice and the little mind. Gets them working with you to make you happy. If you will be doing bitework they should be on a rag or puppy tug at least. Work that prey/chase drive. Even if the pup doesn't have a great bite or grip the chase is important.

I start training very early and on my last pups at 13 weeks of age were started in tracking, sit, short stay plus working on drives and retrieve. Send me a email and I will send you a short video that would interest you.

I too have a 4 month old. She is sitting already, focusing on me, heels pretty well but, stay is an issue at this time as she doesn't want to leave my side. I'm working on it though. She has very high prey drive so, I'm working on that. She has a very strong bite to the point you could literally pick her up but, I use caution at this point as I don't want her injured. She is also starting to take an interest in sniffing anything and everything so I'm wondering if it might be time to start learning tracking. I'm a complete novice at this, so I will be learning at the same time. Good luck with your pup. I think this is a good time to begin what you want your pup to know. Mine seems to be taking to it really well and loves our "exercises".
