Symptoms that your dog will show and will they ever make a full recovery? What about puppies? What does nitrate poisoning do to puppies and can and will they ever make a full recovery. What should a person do?? Thanks!

Just an anecdotal post. I come from a large family grew up in western Nebraska where they use HUGE amounts of fertilizer and pesticides. One sister and myself left at very young ages and and have very few health problems, now in our fifties and sixties. The rest of family who stayed there suffers from everything from eating disorders to depression. Coincidence? Possibly, but I just know that I would never move back to that kind of environment. JMHO

I am an environmental scientist with some toxicology background as well. High levels of nitrates can cause problems for small human infants and probably for small puppies. But the levels would have to be very high. The obvious thing is to change your water source. Do you know for a fact if you have high nitrate levels, what those measurements are etc.? Are you seeing some sort of acute problem or chronic problem? Why do you suspect problems in the pups? You say nothing about signs of illness so it id impossible to know if you have an issue or not. Email me privately and we can go from there. The most important thing is to not give the female or the pups water from any contaminated source. But I suspect something else is really going on here. schwarzenberggsd@earthlink.net
