I would like to hear how others do their tattoos.I have been using the USA recommended method. It requires you to use 7 digits.
1.region one letter
2.tattoer one letter
3.year born one number
4.kennel two letters
5.see above
6.litter one letter
7.number within litter
It just seems like it is to long and drawn out to me.I would like to hear how some other people approach this.
Also on a similar topic,I see my import has 6 digits. What is their system?
Thanks Bobby

I use 5digits. Kennel prefix VH in my case, Litter Letter"D" and birth order "o5" so tattoo is VHD05. I have a clamp type tattooer, and am happy with it. I have gotten a puppy from Canada with 3 digits a letter and 2 #'s, and another dog with 8 digits pen tattooed inside right flank. All different.

Like Kari, I have a 5-digit stamper. I use my kennel name abbreviation, "AO", litter letter "_", then the number of the puppy in the litter, which will also correspond with the last digit of their AKC registration papers as well.
I name and register my puppies according to the German system, males first, alphabetically, then females, alphabetically. So in my current litter, Gabriel is AOG1, Gideon AOG2, Gryphon AOG3, Gunther AOG4, Gela AOG5 and Gunda AOG6. In the event that I have 10 or more, I still have room for the extra digit, since I only use the first four normally. My plan is that if I get through the alphabet and come back around to a second litter with the same letter, I will use AO2G, designating the 2nd G litter.
Hope this helps.

I would like to learn how to put a tattoo in my puppies. If some body can explain me or want to share any information please send me an email to: kg6blq@yahoo.com.
Thanks

For me, it is as follows:
First & second characters = kennel name abbreviated.
Third and fourth characters = year.
Fifth character = alphabet character of litter.
Sixth & seventh character = puppy number as on A.K.C. application.

Can anyone please advise what the USA region letters are? ie, the first letter in the USA tattoo scheme. I can't find this on the USA site.

The southeastern region is C.I'm not sure how to find it on their site.I guess I could but I don't have the time to do it today.
