has anyone else had a nightmare experience with the akc and imported dogs? i have 2 littermates out of imported parents. i got akc papers on them just fine. then someone called me with a problem. the buyers had never sent in app, thinking that the app was papers. so this dog was sold. buyer sent app in and was told that dam did not exist. he pointed out that the litter was registered so dam had to exist. he finally got her reg all info was wrong. she had a cocker spaniel listed as moms dad!

A client of mine had a bad one once, but I have not heard of one as bad as yours. Gee, I thought only the C.K.C. would register a German Shepherd x Cocker Spaniel cross as a purebred dog? I am just kidding. Bob-O

Only problem I had with three imports was that when I asked AKC if it was okay to send in COPIES of the Pink Papers, I was told over the phone that it had to be the originals. I then went through email discussions and they told me copies would be okay. I sent them in and got my AKC registration papers very quickly with all information correct. This just happened last month. Your posting is difficult for me to understand (I'm not a genius but I ain't stupid either), but it seems to me that the mistakes were mostly by the dog owners. I am sure that AKC gets lots of mis-filled out papers, very old applications, mis-spellings, sob stories, etc, etc. How dumb do you have to be to think that the application is the AKC papers? Too dumb to own a dog as smart as a German Shepherd Dog (or even a GSD/Cocker Spaniel mix :)

I was in a pet store which sells puppies. A woman was holding a German Shepherd puppy, as the very young saleman was raving about the champions in the dogs pedigree. He told the woman the parents were imported and the pup was very valuable. I stepped into the conversation and asked to see the registration papers. Upon looking at them, I said ABSOLUTELY, this pup is a one of a kind. See both parents (on AKC registration application) were males!!!!

k9sar, that has to be the best one I have heard yet! I think though that the AKC, like any large organization has to have its' share of very sharp individuals as well as it's share of idiots. Which type you get to deal with is pretty much the luck of the draw. And when you throw into it the fairly new DNA requirements, which by the way I totally support, it can even further confuse things. All in all, given the size of their area of reponsibility, I would give them about a 7 on a scale of 1-10.

The AKC registered my female as a male also - had to have it corrected and papers re-issued which was a pain. -Calvin

Everyone, please be aware that when I typed "C.K.C." that I meant "Continental Kennel Club", and not the Canadian Kennel Club. I aplogize if this confused anyone. Bob-O
