Does anyone know of any way to get the dogs to defecate in a certain part of the yard. Example solutions that can be put down to encourage them in a certain area???

you can walk dogs on leash to that area have a feces pile there as soon as they go there praise them do this repetivly I did this once when space was lijited I made an area first off metel tin roofing sheet then large rock gravel over top of it so could sanitize the area but you have to allow bathroom odor some while teaching them to use this place do not allow them to use anywhere else it takes time and patience. Frankly when I begin with a pup I use a bit of paper with thier mess on it where I want them to go and take them to that area every time I take them out. I have children that play in the yard and like you wanted to contain the dogs bathroom area.

Here is an idea. Get plastic bags when you buy your groceries, instead of paper. When the dog deficates, pick it up, put it in the plactic bag, tie the bag off in a knot, and place it in the trash. The yard stays clean, the dogs don't eat it later, helps keep the flys away, the kids/guest don't step in it later. Works like a charm! Stephen

I got the clean-up handled but I did know if there was any product on the market that you could spray on the are so as to attract the dog to defecate there. The yard gets cleaned everyday.

You can train your dogs to go in a specific area.

just beacause I dont wish the dogs to defecate in the yard and keep the yard clean has no bearing on the pickup yes I do pick it up anyhow have no odors, flies or any such problem. I merely answered another question I am sorry you found it ridiculous or perhaps I did not explain by feces pile was meant a one time defecation temporarily for dog to identify the area to His or her use? even if picked up who wants dogs to urinate where small children play if limited on yard? to each thier own way

I took part of my yard and landscaped it with rocks and large pine bark chunks, some ground cover, grasses and a few decorative items. Blitz uses that area to urinate, but I don't permit him to have his BM's there. I taught him to urinate and defecate on command when he was just a small puppy, so can send him to another area of the yard to finish. Now my lawn stays fairly nice with no brown spots from his urine. I'm sure most dogs could learn to do their business in such an area, but you might want to use something other than pine bark chunks; it's hard to clean up the stool. I agree with Newbie, who wants a dog relieving himself where the kids are playing. Not me!

not only can you train a specific spot ... but you should also train your dog to go on cue/command --- especially if you wish to load your dog in your auto .. unless you want to wait all day for your GSD to take care of business -- additinonally i train my dogs to go on concretem , asphalt as well as gravel and grass whjen i am inh public -- not always is your / any grassy area available .

"Here is an idea" Lol SGBH! I've been using the plastic bag for "off property poops" and a shovel for on... might have to rethink that! Doomsayer, what's worked best for me is to take the pup to the desired area for relief when he/she needs to "go", then in a happy pleasant tone repeatedly give a cue word/phrase...go potty...potty..whatever, and then praise excitedly when it happens. I clean any messes made anywhere else up immediateatly and don't reprimand (unless he/she's caught in the act..then I say no and take/carry the pup to his relief area (where I have left a little of his/her feces)and then.. happy tone ...encourage potty.
