As you all are probably aware, there are many, many dogs with Ursus in the pedigree. In fact, it's sometimes difficult to find a dog WITHOUT him in it! Don't get me wrong; I think Ursus is a great dog with excellent progeny, but we as breeders may want to look at some alternative lines to improve our kennels! I am looking for some of your thoughts on this. Any direct observations from this year's Sieger Show? The lines I've seen that are good alternatives are (in no particular order) Ando vom Altenberger-Land Bax von der Luisenstrasse Dux della Valcuvia Esko vom Dänischen Hof Farina von der Noriswand Vanta von der Wienerau Xandra von der Wienerau Thea vom Baronenwald Verena von Batu Palme vom Wildsteiger-Land There are others, I'd like everyone's thoughts on these dogs' strong points, weak points, pigment, structure, hip ratings etc. Also, if you list another (which would be great, especially females!) please give the information above on those lines.

INTERESTING TOPIC. PERSONALLY, RATHER THAN LOOKING FOR URSUS ALTERNATIVES, I LOOK FOR GOOD COMPLIMENTS. I LIKE THE DOG, I LIKE HIS PROGENY AND THEIR PROGENY. ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL COMPLIMENTS HAS BEEN THE MAX LOGGIA/VISUM LINES. I KNOW YOU MENTIONED DUX BUT I HAVE TO TAKE IT AT LEAST 1 GENERATION BACK IN ORDER TO SUPPORT MY STATEMENT. I HAVE SEEN SOME PRETTY GOOD STUFF WHEN COMBINED WITH ESKO LINES TOO. I AM SURE THAT A FEW PEOPLE MIGHT HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL WHEN COMPLIMENTING URSUS WITH BAX AND ANDO, BUT I AM YET TO SEE ENOUGH QUALITY PRODUCTS OF THESE COMBINATIONS. ONCE AGAIN THAT IS NOT TO SAY THAT THERE ARE NONE. NOW TO ALTERNATIVES, I PARTICULARLY LIKE FEMALES COMING OFF THE KARLY ARMINIUS LINES. ALTHOUGH ESKO IS A GRANDSON OR G-GRANDSON OF KARLY, I WOULD LIKE TO EXPLORE THE YOKER LECHTAL/TIL LECHTAL LINES COMING UNDER URSUS, OR POSSIBLY COMING OVER ANDO OR PROBABLY DUX. A GOOD ALTERNATIVE IS ALSO THE MARK HAUS BECK LINES WHICH IS ALSO ESKO AND ONE OF MY FAVORITES BARU AND THEN OF COURSE TIL. I PARTICULARLY DO NOT CONSIDER ANDO AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO URSUS. HERE IS MY RATIONAL ON THAT. IF WE ARE TRUELY LOOKING FOR AN URSUS ALTERNATIVE, IT SHOULDN'T BE A DOG LINEBRED 3,4 ON URSUS' GRANDFATHER (JECK). DUX IS NOT A GREAT ALTERNATIVE IN MY OPINION. HOWEVER A NICE ZAMP SON (WHO'S DAM IS A KARLY LINE DOG) WOULD BE A BETTER ALTERNATIVE. ANOTHER GREAT ALTERNATIVE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE OFFSPRING OF LASSO NEUEN BERG AND THE GRAND DAUGHTER OF VANNI WIENERAU (I DO NOT KNOW OF THE OUTCOME OF THIS BREEDING). YOUNG DOG CELLO HAUS YU WOULD BE A GRAT ALTERNATIVE WHEN HIS TIME COMES.

Hello everyone. When referring to lines that compliment one another what is meant by that? For instance the discussion here is lines that compliment Ursus lines. Max/Visum lines was thrown out there how does these lines compliment Ursus lined animals? In what aspect, structure, pigment, temperament? Also what if your female already has Ursus/Max/Cash lines what would be some alternatives or compliments to those lines?
