My schnauzer recently started to limp on her left hind leg. A trip to the vets left us wondering if she has torn her CCL. He placed her on Previcox & she immediately improved, almost to the point of overdoing. I noticed an increase in thirst, then an increase in urination which was logical. The next day the urination really increased & I noticed a few extra bumps on her torso that had started to scab quickly. After I googled the medication I was alarmed as these were signs of toxicity. Eventho it was Sunday I called my vet & he said it sounded like a "UTI" & to come by Monday for antibiotics. By the time I did this & came home she had blood in her urine. Vet call again & this time he wanted to change her anti-inflammatory to Metacam. She is now peeing blood, I stopped everything but the antibiotics, but much afraid it might come to late. No appetite or her usual energy. All this took place in less than a week. Any emergent ideas on a course of action, vet says to give antibiotic more time. I feel we are fighting a toxic reaction, all her symptoms point that direction. Help!!! She is truly my companion, I'm old, disabled & pretty much alone, don't know what I would do without her 💔.
