I usually bring the female inside or the male inside to keep them apart. The males can get pretty obnoxious and noisy otherwise.

I'm definitely doing that but any ideas of how to distract him???

That is the strongest drive that your dog will have while there are in females in heat in his vicinity. His nose is powerful and that drive to mate is more powerful. Isolation is your only answer if you don't want the stud to have contact with the female in season. If the house is your solution, I would bring the female in the house, because other dogs will come around and when she is ready she will actively seek them also, and you may wind up with puppys that you don't want, if the female is left outside. The male is going to be destructive(whether he is in or out of the house) in his quest to mate, so be prepared and don't lose your patience.

Thank you much. did not know i there were some home remedies that might confuse his nose.

You can try chlorophyll. Here is a link to an article on feeding it to help mask the odor: http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/controlling_odors_when_your_bitch_is_in_season.htm I used it when I had a bitch in season here (I have 2 intact males). They were fine, the only time they showed any interest was when they were outside near the kennel I put her her to relieve herself.

Hey Doomsayer, you can relieve his pressure manually!! :-) We do it all the time when we do artificial breedings or when we ship fresh, chilled semen!!!!LOL I am sure he would love you for it more than if you put some type of chemical on his nose!!!!

I wasn't saying to use the chlorophyll on the male - you feed it to the female and it helps to "neutralize" the smell. Chlorophyll is used by people with excess body odor and for bad breath. Might not work on all dogs, but it might help and isn't harmful for the bitch.

I've found that if you sort of "wipe" a little vicks capor rub across the top of your males muzzle and put some right between his eyes, and spray your yard area w/ a bleach solution, as well as keep them separated, your male may be calmer. If you are able to track and know when your bitch will be coming into season, start with this treatment asap, before he begins to get interested. It has worked for me 3 different times I didn't want a litter, but you have to be diligent if you're gonna be cheap!!!
