SchH judging - Page 1

Do people feel that judging at SchH trials is affected by "favors" just like the show judging? Only at local trials or also at the big ones?

I think that all judges look for different things in ScH...just like show judges...I know when I was over in Germany for the Bundessieger in Sept the judges were giving different score then what I would have expected from American judging...I was also told that the judging has changed in Germany...what I mean is that they have changed what they want and expect...but I do know that certain people that show in Sch, just like in Show trial, that people who are known and have a reputation get certain extras from the judges...so when your showing against them you have to try even harder to be equal...no fair but that's just the way the beast works...judges will get used to you if you show enough and then have a good idea of what your all about...once again not fair but it's that way...

naw - they just look for free vacations! Some dogs get judged fairly and by the books, but if you are paying the judges way and giving him and his family a free vacation, you can be sure your dogs will get titles. - even if they are fearful, lack drive, get dragged around the field by the collar and come off the sleeve or bite the end. Judges like this should be turned into the SV and their cards shoudl be pulled - I wish I could go to some of these trials with a video camera. Maybe offer a reward to whoever went to one and video taped this Krap.

Beam Me Up Scotty, Know exactly what you mean. Local bitch was sieger here for number of years, as judged by certain imported German individual. I, at the Kennel, closely scrutinised her (was going to buy pup), and was totally flabbergasted. She struck me as the most skinny, nervy, inbred little bitch (and totally wrong in the forehand from the elbows up!) I'd ever struck! Guess who lavished hospitality om this judge year after year? And, guess bitch's rating when subsequently judged under equally qualified German judge! (Who, alas, was entertained by different Kennel!)

hmmmm - been there done that too....patrishap, I have seen some of the same - and I think scotty is dead on...where are you scotty???? could we have met recently at a trial???? LOL LOL I have actually seen things that you have described as "krap". At the same time, I have seen judges at workign trials who socialize and are great to sit and chat with hit the competitors for every single point the rule book allows. You can watch the dog, see the errors and little things, listen to the critiques - and there ARE critiques - and know exactly what the score will be. One judge took maximum points on every error on every exericise - pointed to his score note sheet and on the long bite where I let go of the dog, had a -5 and said 'you, not dog' He was a bit annoyed LOL that I let go without his signal. But I knew exactly why I lost points and what my score was and it was by the book. Every dog in the trial was by the book. I did see a working trial where a dog failed the B?H miserably, the owner cried, and then saw a Pass on it in the magazine. Older judge, pretty girl...lol lol...and ONE time I know of, a judge gave a competitor an extra point after the fact in obedience to bump him to an SG score...he had hit him 4 points on every dummbell and *could* have hit him less. The point affected nothing award wise.

Maybe this is so commonplace that the practice is ignored in reality and on the boards. no - I was NOT at the krap trial. Had a couple of acquaintances who did trial there though. You did not video did you???? ;)
