Dag-nabit, that wasn't the topic I wanted to post, and I hadn't even started to type when this blank-post popped up. Grr.

It's pitiful that a citizen of Madison, Alabama, phones in an emergency police call to report 'a skinny black guy wearing a toboggan', and it doesn't occur to the anyone involved with the call--the 911 operator, the police receiving the call--that if the caller is too ignorant to realize that one doesn't wear a tobaggan, they also probably aren't reading the situation they're trying to report correctly, either.
I am equal parts ashamed and embarrassed, especially since the police officers mishandled the whole affair, and physically assaulted a grandfather who was visiting his son's family from India to the point of causing a spinal injury to the man, leaving him paralyzed.
I wish I was making this up, but it's too far-fetched for anyone's imagination to dream up.

What does this have to do with the public school system?

I think this incident has more to do with ignorance and bigotry than public school systems. What happened to Mr. Patel is inexcusable and the officer should be fired then prosecuted.
