Ok - I have to say first off that I am a German Shepherd Girl not a Doberman Girl.   This is why I am needing some help......  I have a friend that is looking for a pup...  He had a male that passed away at about 2 years with a genetic disease...  I cant say off hand what it was - but I wanted to make sure that the next pup he gets is from great lines as well as has all the necessary testing on the sire and dame...............(I know this isnt a gurantee - so please dont bash)

Ok here is what I need......

Some top old european lines that are in the US - preferable in the SouthEast USA.....    I am looking for pedigree's to look at - and a little bit of knowledge of the workability of these dogs in these pedigree's.........as well as a little bio history on these dogs in the pedigree - what they throw, how their off spring did in the working field - or any other info on these lines.   This includes going back say 4 -5 generations on the "famous" dobbie dogs.......  for example - Fero, Tom - etc......

What to look for on the genetic testing of the parents............  I have looked at several website sites and some of them talk about dw carrier, etc - so I need advise on what to look for or what to run away from.

I am looking for working lines...  I am assuming there is a difference just as there is in German Shepherds....  Correct me if I am wrong please...........

I would post this in the dobbie forum - but it doesnt seem to be as active as the German Shepherd forum......

I dont intend this to be a free for all breeders to start bashing - however if you are proud of your lines - I would love to to look at their pedigrees - if they meet the criteria that I am looking for......  Top working line Dobbies.......
Thanks for your time.

As far as health goes, you'll want to see results for vWD, hips, thyroid, CERF, and cardio (echo/holter).
This may prove very useful for you as it will have tons of info on breeders and which breeders are successfully producing working dogs - http://www.workingdobermanncollective.com/

hope someone in the know contributes, i have always admired the striking appearance of the breed. other than that i know nothing about them personally.

i know this dobe breeder, a great dog man, if he uses these lines it is prolly cos they are good, mostly euro, might be a good starting place or someone to reach out to and learn from. always found the guy to be a straight talker. knows my gsd lines well, just a knowledgeable dog guy.

ETA his wife is a vet so prolly talk health implications re the breed with her.

good luck, be great to hear yr findings.
