HI I am wondering how do these hips look for a 9 months old pup? He has been walking stiff and weird and I had gottten his hips checked at 4 months old with OFA and came back at Fair. I dont know if maybe it changed? The vet says it could be growing pains but I dont know much about how to tell if hips are good or not. Your help is appreciated thanks.

That xray is too difficult to use for a diagnosis of much....terrible quality. Between the low contrast and positioning, all I can tell is that the hips appear to be in the sockets. If your vet thinks this is a good xray to look at hips with, you need a new vet.

I agree with all of Jenni reply

From what I can see/tell, those hips don't look good to me. Have them redone, by a different vet who knows proper xray technique.

This is the WORST x-ray I have ever seen on these boards! Not only is the positioning terrible, but the contrast is very poor too!
I can't see the socket on the left side at all due to the lousy positioning and the socket on the right looks to be very shallow.

Not a good xray to evaluate, this makes the left hip look like there is NO socket and as you may know if that is the case then severe HD. right hip only fair coverage. What breed?? Nan

This is the hip xray done at 4 months old with another vet and came back at OFA Prelim. Fair.
I dont know if it possible for it to take a drastic change to become severe dysplastic 5 months later?

I seriously doubt that this puppy is severely dysplastic. However you do need a better xray; this one is NOT diagnostic. I would wait a few months and have another xray done. The xray you sent to OFA is of much better quality, so you may want to have the same vet do it. The way a dog walks is seldom an indication of the status of its hips.

This x-ray is much better for evaluation; at 4 months old the hips look pretty good, I would hope in time that they will become better as with this x-ray I can see why OFA said fair as the sockets are pretty shallow; could be age related though, not sure, good luck Nan
PS: I would re take x-ray at about 1 year old. Looks like these hips just need to mature. BOL
