Hi Experts,

Am worried that my pup is not eating as much. He used to empty the bowl i feed him. Now (since two days) he is only eating a little more than a quarter. I tried feeding kibble with wet food and dog meat roll. Just kibble with beef mince, just wet food. Not being able to get him to finish the bowl. The only different thing i tried in the last full bowl he emptied was boiled egg. He is active and everything. Poo is solid. Does it mean i have to now feed him with egg each time?

Am worried please help advice me.

If he seems fine in every other way, I wouldn't worry about it just yet and certainly wouldn't be adding every food you can find into his dog food. That's a fast way to turning your puppy into a picky eater. Is he a little chubby? Has the weather changed? Has there been any other changes in the environment? Any recent vaccinations? All of these can decrease a pup's appetite.

I would give him a few days of just offering him his food and taking it away if he doesn't finish it while not giving any between meal snacks. Most pups will begin to eat again in a few days. If he starts to not feel well or doesn't begin to eat, I would take him to the vet for a check up before trying anything else.

His mouth might be a little sore also as he is probably teething.  Just like babies... especially boys.  Offer food and after l/2 hour take it away.  Good luck  Nan  (Also has he been wormed lately, my breeder worms their puppies once a month for the first year).  Alternates from Nemex to Strongid.  I gave my boy Droncit but must say I did not like how he reacted to it so I won't use that again for him, but there are others.  Good luck  Nan

Your going to ruin the dogs eating habits by flipping around.

We've turned some picky puppies into monster eaters using this treat maze.  Can't hurt to try it--he'll have fun with it anyway.  Just substitute kibble for treats.

Scrambled eggs added to meals helps. Parmesian cheese sprinkled on top. A tablespoon of homemade gravy. Whenever I make a roast I always make extra gravy and keep it in the fridge as a topper for a finicky eater.  Is your pup gaining weight and getting a bit pudgy? How are it's poops and do you hear any tummy rumblings or wet burps?

by kishorem19 on 13 October 2013 - 22:10

Eldee:
None of that tummy rumblings or anything....Poops are just fine - solid.

Nedev:
Will try that and see.

Dog wont die. Dog will eat, so say genetics and evolution. Put down food, if he doesn't eat, pick it up and put it down again in 12 hours. Fasting is a natural rhythm for animals. Humans invented meal times. Don't create a fussy eater or a problem for yourself. He will quickly learn he can control you by not eating.

My 2 cents, chubby is bad, feed him raw and if you are genuinely concerned see a vet.
