Of all interesting things, today I went into Lowes with Buck and was told to leave, and that dogs are not allowed.  The woman said "one woman in one state complained and dogs are no longer allowed".  I did research online and found back in 2011 a Rottie growled at a child, and the mother of the child complained.  The ban apparently was last year, early on in the year I think (can't remember the exact month).  I just find it interesting (and this is why I never knew about it) that I've been taking my dogs in there for years, they are well trained, obedient, Buck was friendly and people came up and greeted him just as people always do to him; He reaches his paw out to shake their hands (without them asking), loves children, etc.  Not to mention most all of the workers there know me and my dogs, and have never had a problem with it. In fact most all workers come up to see my dogs as they do each and every time I go there, they pet them, talk to me for a few minutes, and go on.  I've even done training with dogs in that store for clients, and for myself. This woman was new, I had never seen her before, and I just agreed and left.  Part of the reason I may take a dog of mine in there is because a day like today, Buck was already with me I was going to stop in and look at something that I've considering doing for the house soon, it was too hot to leave him in the car even this early;  It's no biggy, I can just, not take my dogs in there of course; but do your guys Lowes still allow dogs?

I don't know about Lowes, but I used to take my dogs into Home Depot on a regular basis. Then some nasty little lapdog nearly took an employee's face off, and a company wide ban on dogs was put in place. Of course, I can still take my service dog in there, and some of the employees sometimes ask me about the other dog I used to take in for socialization purposes (she was REALLY shy).

I was just in my Lowe's this morning with Ava and no body said a word to me.
Also, I'm going to continue to bring my dogs in until a sign is posted or some one tells me I can't.
Maybe it's at the discretion of the store manager as to whether they want to enforce that policy.

What a shame that the irresponsibility of a few has ruined it for the many who are responsible. Sad Smile

sunsilver,

when did they ban home depot?  I used to take my old dog, and dogs that needed the exposure to pass att or public access testing all the time.

thanks sunsilver.

another case of stupidity. why would the greeter have her face in an unknown dogs face lol. handler and greeter ignorance imo.

very sad. as i dont know how many kids and adults alike i was able to educate on proper greeting and etiquette around working dogs
as well as promote training and other education by simply taking my old dog(RIP) or training dogs in home depot and local businesses.
and im sure many on here do the same.

I was just in a Lowe's in MD today and there was a man in there with a dog walking around, no issues that I saw.

by scarreddecoy on 29 June 2013 - 20:06

where are you in MD sheesh? just curious.

both lowes and home depot said it would be a wide spreading policy but individual store owners could make own policy at this point.
