Well, today I removed my first ever tick from Maya's head. I kept thinking how could a wart show up that fast. I have never seen one in my life and was hoping it was a fast growing wart. It wasn't there this morning so how could a wart grow that fast. So I googled ticks on dogs just as an off chance it was a tick. Well, I just about threw up when I saw the video about how to remove a tick. It was then I realized she, my precious baby girl had a tick on her head. I watched the video, grabbed some tweezers and tried not to panic and ever so gently pulled it out at the base. Then I was running around the kitchen with this tick in the tweezers screaming for some one to help me. No one was around, so I poured some peroxide in a little bowl and dumped the bastard in the peroxide and covered the bowl with saran wrap where it sits right now. I cleaned the bump on my precious baby girl and put polysporin on it.
I live north of Toronto and no one here ever talks about ticks. Am I living in a bubble??
Is there anything else I should do for her. I was thinking I may have to sit down and pour myself a stiff drink.
I feel my skin crawling right now.

LMAO! One's first tick experience is not to be taken lightly! Yes, pour yourself a nice drink, and flush that tick down the toilet. That's where all mine end up.
Oh, and wash the area of your dog's head and put some neosporin on the site, she'll be just fine. You caught it soon enough, since it wasn't there this morning, it wasn't on long enough to spread disease.

Oh my God, what if it swam up and latched onto my ass?. There is no way I am flushing it down the toilet. Next suggestion.

Eldee... you have to watch the tick as it goes down and around.... then you will be fine. Really! Now have another ...
, gather your courage, dump that tick ... and flush it away. Unless you intend on keeping your tick as a pet?

I don't think you're living in a bubble. I have lived in the GTA almost my entire life, and have never even SEEN a tick!
Leeches, on the other hand.... [shudder!] I've had to remove a few of those bloodsuckers from my body...
Sooo glad that ticks and Lyme disease are not at all common on this side of the border!
I'm just north of Toronto too. Where are you located?

LMAO!! That is my laugh for the day too!!! Ticks are sooo gross. My boy pulled one off himself yesterday and I've been all creeped out ever since. We usually put ours in rubbing alcohol for a day then down the sink they go. OMG yuck.

That is too funny. I live in Missouri and tick are the state bug LOL. I pulled two of my self yesterday, I hate them. BUT Lyme disease can occur with just the bite, it does not have to be there long. I am back in the city now and no more ticks for me.

Ticks are TERRIBLE in KY this year. I can't even walk to my car on the sidewalk without finding one on my pants leg (we do live in the country though)! We keep a bottle with a little alcohol on the front porch, pick them off and dump them there. Then when there are several ticks just dump it in the garbage can!
You can call your vet about getting a round of doxycycline to make sure your baby doesn't get anything from the tick. That's what we do when the tick prevention fails (and we are using a combo of advantix and daily spray and it still sometimes fails, we have also treated the yard for ticks too).
