Hi everone,

Of course I think she is wonderful but what do you all think of her?
She is now 5 months old 20 kilograms and 20.5 cm, does this seem about right? She seems very small in height to me but I would not know.

Is it better to send her to a trainer or to try and do it myself. We have no puppy classes / training classes here. Only personal trainers.

At the moment we have taught her sit, down, wait, come and paw. However, she only does this at home. When we are walking her she is a nightmare, she barks at people (not nastily) but just to get their attention and she is terrible with other dogs she just barks and will not shut up.

Thank you for your help and comments.

how much padding does she have over her ribs and over the points of her hips and over her backbone?
how active is she?
how is she eating?

If you could resize the photos so the height is no more than 400, it would be easier to see them.

Hiya Sam, nice to get an update.  She is still very pretty !Teeth Smile

I think her weight and size sounds about right for her age, given
that we can only guess that her bloodlines are from European
dogs.

The training thing is obviously a problem - have you any way of
getting the Trainers available evaluated before you commit yourselves
into one's hands ?  In England with a Club I normally advise people
to go along without their dog and sit in on one session so they can
see if they are comfortable with the training style and impressed
with the results.  You clearly cannot do that as easily - but how
about if you ask to be able to 'spectate' at sessions with other
customers ?

Barking at other dogs is not uncommon with young GSDs, but is
made worse by lack of opportunities to socialise with other dogs.
Don't know how many dogs and their people she has met and / or
been allowed to play with on these last few months ?  If you can
manage it (this is unfortunately another advantage of Clubs !) find
ppl with 'bombproof' dogs who like other canines and let them run
around together on some 'neutral' territory, then she may get this
out of her system.  Really hesitant about what else to suggest -
have been in Egypt but not Cairo, and really don't know how many
people with dogs or play and working opportunities exist, hope
someone else who knows the region may have other suggestions
or information for you.

20,5 cm is impossible. Where did you measure?

Sorry - I read that as 'inches';  was I wrong ?

by jaymas100 on 18 March 2013 - 17:03

Sorry it should read inches not cm. She is extremely active. If we allow her she will play all day and night. We do have to limit her food because she will eat and eat. When we run our hands down her she does not seem to be fat we can feel her rib etc. I will resize the pictures tomorrow. She has had some contact with other dogs but not much. We have got a couple of friend that we meet and let the dogs play. I will try to socialise her a little more.
Thank you for all your help
Sam

She is just adorable!..Love those fuzzy ears!..She has a cute little feminine face too. Her coat looks healthy and thick and she has an attentive happy expression..It is hard to tell about weight in a picture unless it is extreme one way or the other. She looks fine judging from the pictures. I like to feel the ribs easily with my hand, but not see them easily..Enjoy your training and working her!,

Keep us updated!!..

She looks a little chubby, and is a tiny bit heavy for her age. She is adorable. Don't worry about the barking right now, just keep socializing.
