How do you determine/ find, a vet to take the hip/elbow x-rays?

After reading many posts, getting the correct evaluation is all about the technician knowing how to position the dog.  Let's say you just moved into a new area and you do not have the network to be able to get "recommendations" that you can trust.  Where do you start?

~~~~~~~~~~`
I am wanting to get Cirberus' and Max's prelims done.
I have asked around and all I am getting is vague answers.  "There is a good vet in such n such town off of such n such highway."  "What is the name of the vet?"  Response is silence.  At first, I thought it was just a matter of my question getting lost in the shuffle.  After getting silence multiple times, I am beginning to think it is some big secret.  So I look up the vets in the yellow pages, under the town and highway.  All 3 vets have horrible reviews on the internet, so they can't be the right ones.
My near by vet has only been in business for about 1 year..... Does not seem like she would have enough of experience to be able to take good, reliable x-rays.  I am not saying she is a bad vet, but if I am going to spend hundreds of dollars on (lets face it) my mutts, I want to make sure I only have to pay it once and not multiple times, just because of the lack of experience.
Thanks Mike.  That actually could be an option if we are stuck going to the Mayo clinic in Minnesota.  We will see what Monday brings.
That said.... Guess I probably should not assume.....    I live in Texas, near Dallas.  I am willing to go to the Austin area too.  I could do Houston, but I need exact directions or be prepared for me to call very lost.  Teeth Smile
Hi Ya Fawn,
I'd PM Sitasmom......I think she is in your area or close by.....She has a lot of dogs and could probably recommend a good vet.
I know a clinic that is east of you a few hours.
Worth the drive, and they won't knock out the dogs unless necessary.
PM me for the name..
Dr Taylor in Rockwall.  Has years of experience particularly with GSDs and always takes very good x-rays, will re-take if not straight enough.
In Houston, Dr. Mary Tatum at Brittmoore Animal Hospital. Hips and Elbows around $300 no anesthesia. Even other vets call her The Goddess of OFA Xrays.
If you have questions about her or the clinic feel free to pm me.
Why prelim if your not going to breed the dogs and they are not doing strenuous work? I'd save my money and wait till they are 2 and file an official report.
