My dads pom is currently at the vet with elevated liver enzymes they are thinking liver disease. They want to send him home with a prescription diet which i know is generally full of crap. Any suggestions on an alternitve diet for him?

this is the first link I looked at when I searched for a diet for liver disease.  There is a samplw menu on this site as well as some supplements to use and what to avoid, depending on the breed and the actual problem.

Excellent article !!!!
Also it is good to use antibiotics to keep in check ammonia producing bacteria.  Talk to vet about it.

i had a GSD in the 80's who had chronic liver disease he was given 12 month to live I home cooked and he lived another 5 years, I used minced beef cooked in the same pan has flaked maize then let it cool into a brawn, i then added supplements that contained biotin, zinc - I did try the prescription food which was 8% protein after 8 months the dog relapsed he required less protein in particular animal protein, as the maize was double cooked his body was able to fully digest and this diet maintained him and gave him another 5 years of active life.
