It has been a very long time since I was around a Border Collie and I just didn't remember ever seeing their nose to the ground. Then again, my only exposer to them is on cattle ranches where looking up was a better thing.
(BTW, OP, your avaitar dog is beautiful. I have all ways loved the coloring on the aussis)

Go to a trial, club is good. That way you can get up close and personal with each part.

They do have the mind set for the obedience, can learn the bite work routine and they may not have the "Bang" or a shepherd or a rotty, But the Shepherd was a sheep dog long before they started biting people on command. Some recently posted a French Bulldog with an IPO 1, so i really do guess any dog could do the work.
