Don't tape the ears the prefered method is to glue ear forms in if the ears are not up by 6 months. Avoid the dog being in a crate too short, if they are coming down during teething that is normal.

Like begets like. Dogs with slow, friendly ears tend to produce more of the same.

I agree with Blitzen, I've never taped ears cause it's natural for them to stand on their own.
IMHO If your dog has weak ears, make her a good pet.

What about cropping? I very recently noticed an ad at the top of the site that shows a very young puppy with ears that are too short and look cut. The puppy is said to be meant for protection so I guess since it's not for show or pet they see no problem cropping the ears. I think it's crazy as the ears should stand on their own, so why bother cutting them to make them stand? My new female Sasha: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/dog.html?id=1845819 has an ear that is crooked but I don't care, as it is not hurting her. Hopefully it will not flop, but if it does, so be it. I really hope it won't, as she is meant for breeding. I worry about it though, as in her pedigree one of her ancestors is named Lop Ear of all things. I really hope the dog does not have floppy ears, but with a name like that it just might. I really wish I could find out more of her pedigree, but it seems to be too full of holes that cannot be filled.

I also own a Doberman, their ears are cropped here in the states but other countries actually have a ban on it. but don't crop a shepherd's ears. that is just not right. either they stand or they don't. if you say for protection, is the beautiful tail next? I'm with you Danica that is just

We have no information at all about what the OP is referring to just an opinion to tape or glue. Could be a two month pup, a four year old dog or no dog at all. The OP has not said their dog's ears are weak just asked for taping or gluing. I hope they are not planning to do this to a pup when there is no reason. Not all people know when it is normal for a GSD's ears to be up.

I think ears that don't stand up on their own is a flaw and these dogs should not be used for breeding. The suggestion of cropping shepherd ears is ridiculous!
