Sunsilver

I saw an AFV clip last night that had me seeing red.

A little toddler went up to a bully-type dog when it was eating (I think) and poked it in the rear...right on the anus! Of course, the dog barked and growled. Fortunately, it was too focussed on its foodbowl to turn around and bite!

Of course, the idiot parent who was filming the kid, let him do it several more times so he could keep recording it.

Whatever happened to what us older folk were taught as kids: NEVER EVER BOTHER A DOG WHILE ITS EATING!!!!   Angry SmileAngry SmileAngry Smile

... or sleeping, for that matter.

Next time the parents sit down for a meal, wouldn't it be nice if  the dog could press a button and they'd get popped in the anus! LOL  Hope the kid catches it on film!

And then, eventually, the dog gets fed up, turns around and bites the kid. Dog gets put down.
No more videos until the next dog.

What got me was the parent seemed to have absolutely NO CLUE that the dog was upset and just might get angry enough to turn around and bite!

Of course, the kid was too young to realize this might happen. I hope he doesn't have to learn the hard way.... Sad Smile

Just had a black & tan shepherd put down locally for biting a 3 year old when the child pushed open an unlockable door/gate-no parental supervision provided for the toddler or the child on the premises that the dog was to "protect"-another needless death because of human stupidity.

A friend emailed me a similar video some time ago because she thought it was
"cute & funny";  this one involved a water fountain, as I recall, and a toddler 'racing'
a GSD to get a drink.  Ending up sharing the water spout ... until the dog knocked
the kid aside to get there.  Hilarious, not.

I've seen that one before. Some people don't deserve to have dogs.

Oscar (my Son) is now 8 years old. He was 3 1/2 when I first brought Zane home as a pup. Oscar and the dogs have grown up together and at times I think they see him as one of them. They certainly look out for him and play with him, although he will climb into the big crate and go to sleep with them too!

They've NEVER been left unsupervised with Oscar and there have still be little mishaps. Not because he or they have done anything wrong. Just because of situations where they're playing for example and because they're bigger, stronger asnd heavier than he is, Oscar has been knocked flying on a few occasions.

Whenever this has happened if he's not up and playing within seconds the dogs all rally round him.

Maybe I'm overprotective. Maybe a little paranoid. But even being as careful as I can be and still allowing a certain amount of freedom whilst playing for both Oscar and the dogs, Oscar has collected a few bruises along the way.

Why on earth such idiots are allowed to either have animals or reproduce is beyond me. It's not funny, cute, endearing etc. But I am pleased that such things are shown online. At least I can show Oscar what fools people can be and hope he continues with his relationship with animals in the same way as the one he has with our current dogs. Maybe when he has kids of his own, he'll teach them the same lessons.

Equally as irresponsible are the producers of the television program, for showing that video instead of rejecting it with a notice to the person submitting it that what they've filmed is child endangerment AND mistreatment of an animal...  I don't watch that program, specifically because it DOES promote stupid and dangerous behaviors which too often involve animals--but anyone who does watch it, if you see clips such as the one Sunsilver just saw, you need to register your objections with the station airing the program, the network it's appearing on, the producers of the program, and most importantly the ADVERTISERS whose commercials are shown during the program.

It's those last ones that have the most power to make the producers change their practices--and given that so many pet food brands are now owned by the same companies that also market other vastly diverse products such as bathroom cleaners and baby wipes and frozen pizza, it's worth noting in your complaint to the advertisers that they have a responsibility to their pet food customers not to support a program that finds amusement and entertainment in animal abuse and child endangerment; if the company wants to support that, then you won't provide financial support for that company by way of purchasing any of their products.

Venting here is great and healthy, but it won't change anything. Ya gotta follow through and register your outrage where it will matter.

They've NEVER been left unsupervised with Oscar...

I have a book called "Childproofing Your Dog" by Brian Killcommon. That's his # 1 rule.

No, you are NOT being paranoid!

Kids do the stupidest things. I heard of a case where a shepherd was taken to the vet for euthanasia after biting a toddler. Fortunately, the vet was smart enough to do a full health exam on the dog to check for anything that might have caused it to bite.

She found two crayons in the dog's ear!!  What Smile
