Below is a list of people Rhonda Southern thanked for making this event Great. She forgot to add the most important person (as i knew she would ) herself! Without Rhonda Southern this event would have never gotten off the ground. She spent and is still spending countless hours planning and working on this event from website to track laying, she worked on the event while competing at the WUSV every day (She placed 22nd in the world, her first time out I must add) She worked on this event through Lyme Disease and still found time to be a wife, a manager at her job, and help people at our club improve their obedience. ( To include myself ) Thanks Rhonda Southern you are truly Super Woman!

Dear SMASC Members, Well, we did it!
We put on another incredible National Championship. We heard nothing but positive feedback from everyone who attended. Many long term DVG members said this was the best Nationals they had ever been to! I will forward under separate e-mails, the compliments I have received.

Many of you worked tirelessly to make this a success. Our members did things way beyond the scope of the Nationals to make everyone feel special. Marisha actually went to the store to get a bottle of hydrogen peroxide for a competitor’s sister who thought her dog had swallowed some of her medication! That’s something she will never forget.

Many club members and others supported this event, but there are a few of you who really worked hard to make this event special and were there every morning long before the sun came up and stayed until the bitter end:

Dale Lomax – Probably the best trial secretary we have ever had! Sorry Tyrone! Dale - I think you may be stuck with this job now!

Leisa Whooley – Who put on another incredible raffle! She worked for 12 months on making this one of the best raffles we have ever had. Initial numbers show that she more than doubled our raffle budget! She also stepped up at the last minute and took on advertising and sponsorships, AND made all of the competitor bags. I don't know what I would do without Leisa!

Wallace Payne – Who not only coordinated tracks but laid them, set up the field, and took care of many, many of the details that were invisible to everyone else. He even drove 10 hours to Florida to pick up a wall!

Marisha Steward – I know she hated getting there at 6:30 am! But, by golly, she was there early every day and like a little bee getting everything done – checking and double checking that I had not missed anything. You could never tell she was tired!

Dave Parkin – Easy to miss with his quite spirit, but always the man you can count on when you need to make sure something is done and done right! Dave took full responsibility to make sure the field was set up each day and for each flight, and took the judges to the airport on Sunday and Monday!

Jeff Batiste – He and his family provided breakfast and lunch each day. The food was incredible and I heard great compliments from our guests. I personally know how tired they were at the end of each day. Thank you, thank you for taking such good care of our bellies!!

Tyrone Collins – Although I always knew Tyrone was dependable, he showed me this weekend, that he was more than that! Not only was he on top of his job of twitter updates, group and leader board, he was directing others to make sure the show ran smoothly.

Dwight McKnight – Although he tried to act like he couldn’t help out because of competing J, Dwight was there helping at every opportunity he could starting with setting up the room for the draw and ending a long weekend helping clean up and return everything to the club!

Carmen Diamond – Carmen is new to the club but has already showed us that she is an invaluable club member! She was there from the beginning: setting up draw and checking in competitors as they showed up. She manned the gate when everyone else wanted to watch the event! We need more of her!

Bobby Hall – Bobby could only be there one day, but he worked as hard on that one day as most of us did all weekend!! I think we might have worked the hair off his head!! :-)

Shanon Rawlinson – Shanon came all the way from Canada to help out her club! She laid tracks on Friday for the IPO2’s. She also provided the gorgeous flags for the event – her own special touch!

Willie Cooper – Not only did he lay tracks Saturday and Sunday for the IPO3’s (a lot of tracks!!) but he also came back to the stadium each day to help take down the field. He also graciously drove the tracking judge to and from the hotel after tracking

Lotus Perkins – We put Lotus’ brawn to work all weekend – when we particularly needed his muscles, he obliged by being there before the crack of dawn on Sunday morning to set up the field and assist with anything else we needed!

Denise Kiah – She is not even a club member but was there every day working her ASS off for our club!! Denise was always looking around for what we needed help with! What incredible support!

Stefan Mannsbart – He takes the stereotype of the German to a new level! Not only was he the first person at the stadium on Saturday, he spent the night Saturday so he could be there to help Sunday morning!!! He did everything from unlocking the doors in the morning and checked the tattoos and microchips ALL day each day. I never really knew Stefan until this weekend – What a guy!!

Copper Creek DVG Club – Provided us with help each day. Special thanks to Mike Holbrook who was at the tracking fields making sure everything was running smoothly and Annette Holbrook who was there to do whatever we needed each day. There club was a huge support!

I know we are all tired but I hope it is a good tired knowing that we wowed the country with an incredible event and incredible SMASC hospitality!! Now, on to getting our own dogs ready to compete!!

Thanks, Rhonda

It seems this is a prime example of team work at its best! People working together towards a common goal, and no hidden agenda or financial motivation. Way to go guys! Thank you Wallace, for giving us such a positive example. I, for one, will pass this on to my club members. We are hosting a trial/show in April. Your post is a good reminder of what we are doing and why.
Thank you!
Theresa
