As a retired canine handler I can tell you that at times it can be difficult to protect your police dog against other leo's for crying out loud. They need to add a class at academies. A few years ago and officer sent a dog after a felon and another officer thought it was coming at him and shot it. That happened in Charlotte but I have heard other stories like it from other handlers.

That is rediculous.... there is absolutely NO reason for an officer to shoot a K9. A bite is not going to kill an officer for crying out loud. It may hurt a little...lol.. but there will be less damage than what they would get from a bullet.
