Krazy Bout K9s

by Krazy Bout K9s on 10 September 2012 - 03:09

I have an adoption application, that I immediately rejected, because this person rehomed 2 dogs, dumps 2 different breeds, because of behavioral problems, and let at least one cat get eaten by coyotes, come to find out, she is posting on her facebook account, she wishes the coyotes would eat her cats, so she doesn't have to feed them, she is applying to all the rescues in 3 different states, that I know of, WA, ID, and MT, we all refuse her and she is insistant, she wants a dog or she will go to a breeder...we did a vet reference check and it came back NOT GOOD AT ALL!!!

Would you as a breeder adopt or sell to this person knowing this??? Backyard breeders probably would, but she is applying in WA, ID and MT, maybe OR, for sure... All of us responsible rescues in WA and MT, have rejected her...

WHAT WOULD YOU DO????
Do you do checks and balances or do you believe what the person is saying??? Do you really call the veterinarian and ask if the person's dog is UTD on shots??? I know not all of us yearly vaccinate, but the 3 yr Rabies is required by law, in most states....do you ask the vet if they believe they are responsible pet owners? Do you ask the vet if they would give them their own dog, should the occasion arise???

What do you look for in vet references?

I think I would look like a bad dog owner by vet references. If you called them to ask about me he would probably say "you mean that crazy lady that feeds raw meat and dont vaccinate enough." Me and vets cannot agree on anything, lol. I only go if I HAVE to. Cam was vaccinated at a year and not again since. He will need to be vaccinated when we move to Fort Lewis next month. They wont accept a titer test of course. Sad Smile

Me too! LOL.

I would flunk your app, I guarantee it;-)

I don't check w/vets because it's likely that if they think the person is a good owner, I won't, and vice versa.

That lady sounds like a nut, anyway, though. The vet thing is a match on a fire from the sounds of it.

Kelly,
I would too,  "be a bad pet owner because of the raw and lack of vac records", but on the other hand, what about just rabies??? I had a dog I LOST/PTS due to a rabies shot. Dogs do NOT need to be vaccinated every year, BUT, when the vet says, they, churn through their pets. Would you sell/adopt to that person???? Along with the other warning signs, mentioned above, would you as a breeder "SELL" to this person???

Jenni, me too be a bad pet owner, BUT read the rest of the email....rehomed 2 dogs because of behavioral problems, AND bad vet references, AND do you do a 3 yr rabies??? If so, that is usually sufficient for vet references...I don't do DHPP after the puppy shots, I will titer... I am probably the worst when it comes to chex and balances, but there are some norms we need to adhere too...

Hi Steph,
Hope your well.
Dunno bout yours but my Vet will not share info about other clients.
That being said, I've learned that hard way to listen to my inner voice when it comes to humans.

Best wish's

Steph,
Yeah it's been a while, I tried to get some info on a neighbors' dog just last week.
This Vet won't and I agree with him, my information is confidential and so should everyone else's.
If I'm really concerned I have been known to interview a persons neighbors, they are always glad to comment if kept anonymous.

Isabelle was bitten on the hind leg in a scuffle and needed attention.
She'll live but has a nasty gash that's gonna be slow to heal.

Moons.
