I would take the whole litter myself to buy me more time to find them homes, but that is just not possible, so here I am in a time crunch! They are little Schnauzer mixes... 7 of them. No idea who daddy was - they didn't even know she was pregnant until she surprised them a couple weeks ago.
At any rate, any tips from you seasoned rescuers to weed out the weirdies? I'm trying my damnedest to find these guys homes... I used to volunteer at that place and I know for a fact that even the cute little guys are never safe. I've been asking just about every person I come across during work if they know anyone interested... sent out the universal text... Facebook... contemplating an ad in the papers and on Craigslist - which is why I ask.
Had a couple "bites" but nothing set in stone yet. And it can't hurt to add - if you guys know anyone interested in the NE/IA/KS (always up for a roadtrip) area interested... let me know!

I would NOT give them away or advertise free or even cheap. You get all kinds of weird people. If a pet is so important to them, then they can be willing to part with $150 or so. Now you don't actually have to charge them (I've adopted a dog where my assumption was that the adoption fee was the standard $200 but in the end the dog was given to me).
Is there a local rescue that would be willing to post them to Pet Finder as a courtesy?
Take good pictures. Sounds sad but we've found that a good picture can be the difference between a puppy sitting a month in foster care and getting three applications the next day.
Ask for and *check* a vet reference. I'm not picky on everyone's individual vaccine protocol or what vet they use but if they own a pet (and all of our applicants have owned pets in the past) then they need to have a vet lined up.

You need pictures. Pictures talk to people. Frankly, I don't see the difference between CL and this place as far as weirdos...remember the wacky lady who made up a new login to tell me to give Corrado to her old login for free? LOL LOL
You have to do the same screening wherever you post. There are other free classifieds that seem to pull data from other sites; I got a GREAT home for a puppy from a site I'd never posted an ad on! It was domesticsale.com. There is also hoobly, ebay pet classifieds, etc. There are normal people here and there who just happen to see what's available there. Those little guys will likely be pretty adorable, so get your camera out!
I had one person crazy enough to drive from Nebraska once, so beware.

LOL
Good luck Dawulf, I know there are lots of people who DO adore Schnauzers, and they probably would drive to Nebraska for one, whether that makes them crazy, well, I wouldn't say it is the deciding criteria on sanity. IMHO

Screen carefully, do vet check for sure, charge an adoption fee...even if you don't when they get there...I can tell alot about people by their application.
Pm me if you need more help.

would love to see pics of the pups, what size was the schnauzer mom? I've got a sweet spot for mini and standard schnauzers.
Don't adopt to anyone who is fussy about the adoption fee. I hope they all find good homes quickly

Might have 3 placed!! Woohoo! :)
I've been trying to type this post out for like 2 hours now... but have been getting texts and phone calls back and forth like crazy, and new info that voids out what I just typed. Frustrating! LOL!
5 girls, 2 boys... 5 weeks old. The lady sent me pics on my phone, now I just need to figure out how to get them off without having to go the Facebook route. She will be bringing them to town so people can see on Sunday, though, so hopefully I can get some better pictures then with a real camera.
I've got no problem with screening people... but thanks for the advice - vet refrences and stuff to ask was what I was wondering! So far everyone interested is a friend or a friend/coworker/daughter of a friend, so I haven't had to screen much thankfully.
LMAO Jen! Crazy is putting it lightly. Nahh - I'd do it again in a heartbeat. But yeah... I have a knack for finding all these wacky situations. I don't mind though, it keeps things interesting - and I loooove puppies.
The Petfinder courtesy listing is not a bad idea... will have to hunt around for that.
Beetree - hey - crazy is 'in' now! Gotta do what ya gotta do. :)
Thank you Steph... I will be sure to PM you if I need too!
Euro - I will post some pics for you when I can. I asked what size the mom was and all I got was 'small', so assuming between that and the pic I got of her and the puppies (there was an energy drink can in the corner) I'm thinking she is a mini. I will tell you this though - the puppies are adorable!!!
I actually think I am having way too much fun with this.
