Just a silly question. My vet said no beach when my boy had hurt his shoulder, now he's all better though. Then unprompted his trainer said beach sand was bad for his joints the other day.
Just wondering what the wonderful experienced people on here had to say. Using human logic it seems like there should be less impact on beach sand. But I don't know.

Yes, stick with logic. Sand is far superior to say, concrete, in terms of exercise surface.

if your dog is slowly introduced to sand, its a good thing.
if your dog is taken to the beach and expected to spend the whole day playing fetch and running, it could cause problems. just like with people.
everything in moderation.......slowly build up his muscles and tendons with the different surface and its a great way to fit your dog.

Walks on the beach in sand and water could be good, I would not over exercise your boy, but slow steady walks to build him up. BOL Nan
Like any athlete recovering from an injury if you see him tiring, STOP, rest and maybe continue next day. Don't overdue.

He's fully recovered now. Brilliant, thanks for the responses.

don't know about sand an a injury, but I have found nothing better, maybe swimming, than a long run with sand for conditioning.

No better combo than the beach and joints.
