No aspersions towards anyone, but interested as to whether you do, or would, leave a baby or young child alone with your dog?

HELL, NO!

Read Brian Killlcommon's book, Childproofing Your Dog. That's his #1 rule!

I'm not sure if this is in his book or someone else's. The family's faithful old dog wound up at the vet's, slated for euthanasia after biting a child.

Fortunately, the vet decided to examine it before putting it down. She found TWO crayons in the dog's ears!

Although only minimal details were released to the news, I'm reminded of the very sad event that happened in Alberta in February 2012 where a Siberian Husky killed a newborn boy. The owners had the dog euthanized.

DITTO to Blitzen (and above responses) as well.  I am personally surprised how many people do, based on saying they are 100% confident of their dog.

Apart from a baby (presumably not able to reach out to the dog), but are they also 100% sure of their young child?

I fail to understand this positive conviction!  Particularly as I am not even 100% sure of myself!!!  LOL.  For example, I may well be convinced that in certain situations this is how I would behave and act, but until I am in a certain situation, I would have to honestly admit to 99% hopefully confident of myself!

Until very recently, I didn't even go to the bathroom and leave my toddler alone with the dogs! The dogs came into the bathroom, or the baby went in his crib.  Now, I just leave the door open so I can hear exactly what's going on in the next room. LOL

Never. I don't care how much I trust my dogs, things happen.  Kids may do something to the dog while you're gone, causing the dog to do something back.  There have been some so called very trust worthy dogs left alone with children only to end up with a dead child, or a severely mauled child.  I trust my dogs in most anything, but that is something I never do. I also never allow my nieces when they're over here to be in a room where the dogs are, or be outside with the dogs if I'm not in that room, or outside as well.

Never Never
I trust my dogs with  anything, but that is something I never do not even for 2 min.
I also wouldn't trust a cat with young children.

Nope. It's not that I don't trust my dogs with kids; I don't trust kids with my dogs!

Nope I would never leave a dog alone with an infant.  I have seen some nasty "supervised" accidents.  A freinds lab bumped their toddler into the pool!!!  We were all standing there, the child was not injured and it happened in the blink of an eye.  Would have been a much different outcome if it had been unsupervised.....A dog could bump a baby into the corner of a coffee table and it could be instant death.  Doesnt have to be death by an aggressive animal
