Hey all,

There are lot's of "behind the scenes" stuff going on that will hopefully benefit the community.

One of those things are that I am (with outside help) in the process of completely rewriting architectural structure of pedigreedatabase.com,   moving from the current (working but) outdated setup.   We will keep the current layout / functionality as much as it is now while doing so.   Meaning that we will have rewrite the whole thing without anybody noticing.  After that, we can roll out design changes and added functionality with much more ease (and allow users to choose the old layout if they prefer)

Project estimations set this as being done in early 2013.  (hopefully sooner,  but being an IT guy I know how these things go)

Other then that,  there is now a fully functional secure method of browsing pedigreedatabase.com,  take any url (only www. now) and use https:// instead of http:// and you will browsing it in a secure 2038 bit manner.   (for instance:  https://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/bulletins.htm  )

I will be moving all logins/logouts to the https and setting the system to keep logged-in users in the secure environment, thus preventing any middle man can snoop  userids/passwords/messages sent/

My biggest enthusiasm is for the architectural change,   that will have a huge difference,  since a part of that move is to move the data/server into a cloud service (which means that it will be serving users from a cloud server located very near them,  minimizing response time and maximizing throughput).

So what will happen to us that have DIAL UP ...you know, the slow mule in the rural part of Texas that has no other available. I live in a Regulated triangle in TEXAS , AND THE phone company is old and I have nothing else.

Yahoo, and Kodak,  rewrote all their programs for dsl or higher and it presents me an all day event to even get emails answered...it gives me false notices, says I have timed out and I spend all day rebooting and trying to make it work. In fact Kodak is now off my use. I have 60 albums locked in their program that I have to have someone else get out for me.

PDB works pretty well for me right now.

Well, you can check it out YR, click on the link... I get a nice green lock to look at, but only on the PC, and it IS nice to see the "s" at the end of "http". The Mac's only have "https".

Hope all works ok

I would hate to have to go to the library every day to look on pdb...lol

 Bee:

Hate to be the kill  joy  but it will not let me get onto the pages,,, I even tried to edit my last post and it threw me off and said   TRY AGAIN

THE new programs people write for these websites are for people who have internet.

Dial up is not internet...so  It took 4 minutes to get in and another 3 to tell me   TRY AGAIN>>as I explained...I was almost sure it would not work,  without even trying it....I knew it..Dial UP is only at my house   26.4kbps

IF I understand it, as Oli wrote, we can still use the old way?????

My only way...

I know you know what "s" means, LOL  But did you click the link and did everything work for you out there, somewhere's at the end of the earth in your remote, tech-deprived area?  I think the library would soon tire of you showing up for your daily dose of PDB. JK, they would look forward to it, everyday. no  Just bring them coffee every now and again.

Based on what Oli is saying, it sounds like browsing should be faster, more seamless, and more secure.

Https works on Mac and PC (maybe the browser has secure browsing disabled or one or more of the encryption protocols disabled?).

Oops...we seem to be cross posting.... Well, a few seconds ago it said something like "the content on these pages is insecure, do you want to load anyway?" And I was going to take a screen shot, (I just learned how!) but by the time I came back to do it, somehow I closed the page. When I reopened it and clicked the link again, it seems to be working just fine.

So, my new thought is.... Oli said it will be an ongoing process... I hope it finds your way soon, and works for you, 'bout all I can say!

And it is a good thing that you have the option to keep the old way, at the very least. When are you folks in TX going to demand some cable? Or Uverse, or something? I couldn't live like that, not after knowing what you are missing!

READ my post,,,,,,we both posted at same time

I am not gonna drive 9 miles to town to get on PDB///

I can always save that 30.00 each month for a second line, and 15.00 for ppc and just be happy watching tv and do without a pdb.

then I could cancel the phone with my country bumpkin company , and use my trac phone only...another 50.00 saved...hmmmm

Or I can call Crys, Ally, Mahon and others to post for me and to read all the threads to me at midnight each night...hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

HERE IS ALWAYS more than one way to skin a cat..

A couple of weeks ago I contacted a company here who guarantees high speed internet everywhere...ha h aha

he looked up my address and told me OBAMA has  a new program and if your address shows you have no access to cable or high speed you can get it for 39.99...a month from us

if we can service you..He called me back the next day and said no your address is not on Obamas list..

OOOPSSS  I didn't think it was anyway and probably to tell the truth no ones address is on it.

do not know

BUT dial up with  26.4 kbps  will not work on anyones programs...none..

so I just wait and see
I can use the old one I guess
Yahoo went to upgrade and you either use the upgrade or none.
